Vögel (nur für Begeisterte, vielleicht) … Birds (only for enthusiasts, maybe)

Die Nebelkrähe und ich kommen uns etwas näher. Eines Morgens stand ich auf der Nordterrasse und schaute auf mein Rhododendronbeet, und als ich den Kopf nach rechts drehte, sass der Nebelkräherich auf unserem Wohnwagen und schaute mich an. Aber sobald ich zurückschaute flog er weg. Aber immerhin, er war nur ca. 3 m von mir entfernt.

… The hooded crow and I are getting a bit closer. One morning I was standing on the northern terrace and looked down at my rhododendron bed, and when I turned my head, the crow was sitting on our caravan and looked at me. But as soon as I looked at him, he flew away. But anyway, it was only about 3 m (9 feet) away from me.

Nebelkrähe … Hooded crow

Die Sumpfmeisen kommen schon seit März nicht mehr an den Futterplatz, aber wir haben zwei Blaumeisenpaare und ein Kohlmeisenpaar. Am wenigsten Angst haben die Blaumeisen. Sie holen sich schon Erdnüsse aus dem Glasspender am Küchenfenster, wenn ich noch dabei bin, Futter für die anderen auszulegen. „Unser“ Rotkehlchen habe ich mehrere Male gesichtet, aber es ist so schnell wieder weg, dass ich es noch nicht ordentlich fotografieren konnte. Ausser den Spatzen haben wir dann noch ein Amselpaar (da waren mehr am Futterplatz, aber sie kommen jetzt nicht mehr), diverse Buchfinken und ein Grünfinkenpaar. Über letzteres bin ich besonders froh, denn die werden immer seltener. Sie haben letztes Jahr zum ersten Mal bei uns in den hohen Thuja gebrütet. Dort wohnen eine Menge der kleinen Vögel.

… The marsh tits stopped coming to the feeding placed already in March, but wir have two pairs of blue tits and one pair of great tits. The blue tits are least afraid. They are already getting their peanuts from the glass dispenser at the kitchen window, when I am still putting out food for the other birds. I have sighted „our“ robin several times, but it is so quickly gone again that I was not able to take a photo of it. Beside ethe sparrows, we have a pair of blackbirds (we had more of them feeding, but they are not coming anymore), several chaffinches and a pair of greenfinches. They have bred last year for the first time in one of the high thuyas. A lot of the small birds live there.

Ein leider ganz unscharfes Bild von Herr und Frau Grünfink. Aber ich habe so viel von ihnen geredet, dass ich zumindest einmal beweisen wollte, dass sie tatsächlich existieren. 😉 🙂

Den einen Tag sah ich meinen Kräherich in den hohen Baum beim Nachbarn fliegen, und zwei Amselhähne hinterher. Ich fragte mich, warum die denn auf einmal die Krähe wegjagen, aber dann sah ich einen Habicht auffliegen. Der war so gut getarnt, dass ich den im Baum gar nicht gesehen hatte. Gegen die Räuber rotten sich die anderen Vögel zusammen.
Aber Sonntag Morgen beobachtete ich dann eine der grossen Ringeltauben, wie sie wiederholte Male ganz dicht im Sturzflug über die Krähe flog, so dass diese fast vom Ast fiel. Die Taube war ziemlich insistierend, so dass die Krähe schliesslich aufgab und wegflog. Wir haben übrigens von den anderen im Dorf erfahren, dass die Krähe bekannt für ihr Fensterhacken ist. Sie (oder besser er) macht das aber nur während der Paarungszeit. Er sieht dann anscheinend sein Spiegelbild als einen Rivalen an. Das ist ziemlich laut und hört sich an, als ob jemand an die Scheibe klopft. Die ersten Male war ich ziemlich erschrocken, besonders als er an die Terrassentür hackte.

… One day I saw my crow fly into the tall tree at the neighbour’s, followed by two blackbirds. I wondered why they were suddenly chasing away the crow, but then I saw a hawk fly up. It was camouflaged so well that I haddn’t even seen it in the tree. The other birds band together against the birds of prey.
But Sunday morning I watched one of the big wood pigeons repeatedly dive so close over the crow that it almost fell off the branch it was sitting on. The pigeon was quite insistent, so the crow finally gave up and flew away. We learned from other people in the village that the crow is known for its window hacking. She (or rather he) only does this during the mating season. He then apparently sees his reflection as a rival. This is quite loud and sounds like someone knocking on the window. I was quite startled the first few times, especially when he hacked at the patio door.

Wir haben ausserdem endlich die Bestätigung bekommen, dass die beiden grossen Raubvögel, die wir öfter in der Umgebung, aber auch schon über unserem Dorf gesehen haben, tatsächlich Rotmilane sind. Sie flogen nämlich beide zusammen eines Abends relativ tief und dicht neben unserem Auto her und wurden von der Sonne beleuchtet, so dass man ihre Farbgebung deutlich erkennen konnte. Wunderschöne Vögel. Sie leben in einem der kleinen Baumgruppen zwischen den Dörfern Solbjerg und Bælum. So dicht an menschlichen Behausungen zu nisten, ist ja eigentlich nicht typisch für Rotmilane, aber die Steinadler in Lille Vildmose leben ja auch nicht gerade in ihrem typischen Habitat. Sie passen sich eben an …

… We also finally got confirmation that the two large birds of prey that we have often seen in the area and also above our village, are actually red kites. They both flew together relatively low and close to our car one evening and were illuminated by the sun so that their coloring could be clearly seen. Beautiful birds. They live in one of the small groups of trees between the villages of Solbjerg and Bælum. Nesting so close to human habitation isn’t actually typical for red kites, but the golden eagles in Lille Vildmose don’t exactly live in their typical habitat either. They just adapt…

Essenausgabe
Wir haben uns schon seit einiger Zeit mit dem Gedanken getragen, freiwillige Arbeit zu leisten. Das Naheliegende war für uns, im Blauen Kreuz zu arbeiten. Aber das war nicht so richtig etwas für meinen Mann. Er vor zwei Wochen eine andere Möglichkeit für einen Einsatz gefunden, und zwar den Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud (Nordjütlands Lebensmittelüberschuss NOFO). Wir fahren jetzt jeden Mittwoch Kartons mit Lebensmitteln an bedürftige Familien aus. Das sind so 10-12 Kartons jedes Mal, nicht mehr als 12. Die Empfänger bezahlen 50 DKK für ca. 30 kg Lebensmittel, hauptsächlich Frucht und Gemüse, aber auch Brot, Kekse, Salatdressing und alles mögliche andere, was eben gerade geliefert wurde. Letztes Mal war da z. B. eine Partie Hafermilch und massenweise Küchenkräuter. Was nicht an der Hauptstelle in Aalborg von Familien abgeholt wird, geht im Moment an ukrainische Flüchtlinge.

Food delivery
We have been considering doing voluntary work for some time. The obvious thing for us was to work in the Blue Cross. But that wasn’t really something for my husband. Two weeks ago he found another opportunity and that is the Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud (North Jutland’s Food Surplus NOFO). We now deliver boxes of groceries to needy families every Wednesday. That’s like 10-12 boxes each time, no more than 12. The recipients pay 50 DKK for around 30 kg of groceries, mainly fruit and vegetables, but also bread, biscuits, salad dressing and anything else that has been delivered. Last time there was for example a batch of oat milk and lots of kitchen herbs. What families don’t pick up at the main warehouse in Aalborg is currently going to Ukrainian refugees.

Musik
Mein Mann hat das Musikzimmer wieder umgeräumt und richtig gemütlich gemacht … 😉 … jetzt haben wir richtig Lust, Videos zu filmen. 😉 Vor nächstem Wochenende wird das aber nichts, denn auf einmal war unser Kalender total aufgefüllt, wie das bloss immer passiert? Irgendwie sind wir sozial geworden … 😉 😀
Nein, nein nächstes Wochenende geht auch nicht, da sind wir in Deutschland … hoffentlich, denn das hängt vom PCR-Test am Dienstag ab. Aber Geduld ist ja angeblich eine Tugend, nicht wahr? 😉

Music
… My husband has re-arranged the music room again and made it quite cosy … 😉 … now we are really motivated to make videos. 😉 But it won’t happen until next weekend, because our calendar was all of a sudden completely filled up. How does that happen all the time? We have somehow become social … 😉 😀
No, no, nothing doing, next weekend won’t work either, we will be in Germany then … hopefully, that depends on the PRC-test on Tuesday. But allegedly, patience is a virtue, is it not? 😉

P.S.: Es ist ein bisschen peinlich, aber der Grund dafür, dass die Vogelbilder eigentlich alle nicht ganz scharf sind ist, dass ich einen Kampf mit meiner Kamera hatte. Immer wenn ich scharf auf einen Vogel eingestellt hatte und „abdrücken“ wollte, stellte die Kamera auf etwas anderes scharf. So wird man von Maschinen boykottiert … mein Mann fand dann (sofort) heraus, dass der Fokus auf automatisch stand, ahem, hüstel …

… It is a bit embarassing, but the reason for the bird photos not being completely sharp is that I had a fight with my camera. When I focussed on a bird and wanted to „shoot“, the camera suddenly focussed on something else. That is how we are boycotted by machines … my husband then saw (immediately) that the focus was set on automatic, ahem, cough cough …

Bergfinken/ … bramblings, 2015 in Kruså.

Die Futterstellen für meine Vögel liegen in diesem Winter etwas weiter vom Haus entfernt, daher habe ich keine neuen Fotos gemacht. Ich kann mit Freude berichten, dass dieses Jahr eine kleine Gruppe Grünfinken am Futterplatz erscheint, ausser den „usual suspects“, Feldspatzen, Buchfinken, ein Rotkehlchen, Blau-, Kohl- und Sumpfmeisen, Türkentauben und Ringeltauben, sowie auch endlich Amseln. Die kamen erst nicht, und ich denke, dass das vielleicht daran lag, dass zwei ihrer Nester von Katzen zerstört wurden. Unser Garten galt wohl als unsicher. Zuerst kam dann ein Männchen, und jetzt kommen drei Männchen und zwei Weibchen. Von den grossen Vögeln kommen wieder ein Nebelkrähen- und ein Dohlenpaar sowie eine Elster. Die Meisen sind so süss. Wenn die Spatzen fressen, versuchen sie, sich gegenseitig vom Futter wegzuschubsen und greifen sogar zu unfeinen Praktiken wie in den Rücken hacken und an den Schwanzfedern ziehen. Die Meisen warten höflich, bis ihr Vorgänger fertig ist.

… The feeding places for the birds are this winter a bit further away from the house, that is why I haven’t taken new photos. I can gladly report that his year a small group of green finches are feeding here, on top of the „usual suspects“, woodsparrows, chaffinches, a robin, blue, great and marsh tits, collared dove, wood pigeon, and finally also blackbirds. The big bird visitors are a pair each of hooded crows and jackdaws, as well as a single magpie. The blue tits are so sweet. While the sparrows always try to push each other away from the food, sometimes even with ungentlemanly practices like hacks in the back and pulling of tail feathers, the tits are waiting until the first bird has finished.

Wie ihr wisst, haben wir ja wieder keine Sängerin und mir wäre es auch am liebsten, wenn wir aufhören würden zu suchen. Mir gefällt es am besten mit nur meinem Mann und mir. Alles andere gibt nur Komplikationen, und das müssen wir uns in unserem Alter nicht mehr unbedingt antun. Ich habe wie gesagt jetzt auch angefangen, mehr zu singen. Mit der Übung werde ich besser. Mal sehen, wie sich das entwickelt.

As you know, we again don’t have a singer, and I would prefer if it remained thus and we stopped searching. I like it best with only my husband and me. Anything else just gets complicated, and we don’t have to do that to ourselves anymore at our age. As mentioned, I have started to sing more. I am getting better with exercise. Let’s see how that develops.

Ich hoffe wirklich, dass wir bald wieder ein Video machen. Wir haben interessante neue Musikstücke im Repertoire, wie „Nights in white satin“ von den Moody Blues und „You’ll be in my heart“ von Phil Collins.

Übrigens hat die dänische Volkspartei tatsächlich Morten Messerschmidt zum Vorsitzenden gewählt (der mit den missbrauchten EU-Geldern, der auf seine Gerichtsverhandlung wartet).

Pflanzen
Ich habe mir einen Ableger von einem umgestürzten Wacholderbusch aus dem Rebild-Park mitgebracht. Ich habe ihn in einem dicken Bündel feuchter Blätter nach Hause gerettet. Eigentlich wollte ich ihn einpflanzen, aber ich sehe, dass er im jetzigen Arrangement gewachsen ist und Seitentriebe bekommt, vielleicht bewurzelt er sich ja in dem Blätterkissen.

I have pinched a cutting from an uprooted juniper bush from Rebild park. I brought it home in a large cushion of wet leaves. I had planned to plant it into a pot, but I can see now that it has grown in the present arrangement and gotten side buds. Maybe it will get roots inside the leafy cushion.


Und dann habe ich mir den Frühling in die Stube geholt.

Die tolle kleine Orchidee habe ich von Frau Meermond geschenkt bekommen.

Garten und Viecher … Garden and beasties

Als Erstes seht ihr „ein paar“ Bilder von meinen Frühlingsblühern. Danach kommen die Viecher -geschichten/-bilder/-videos.

… First of all, you will see „a few“ photos of my spring flowers. Thereafter will follow the beasties‘ stories/photos/videos.

Meine Iris habt ihr ja alle schon gesehen, daher zeige ich sie hier nicht noch einmal Eine einzelne blaue Anemone blanda und eine Mini-Narzisse haben zwischenzeitlich auch eine Blüte geöffnet. Die grossen Kokus waren zwischen den gelben Iris und Taglilien, die ich von meinem Nachbarn habe. (Er wollte das alles wegwerfen.)

… You have all seen my dwarf iris, therefore I have not included them here again. One individual blue anemona blanda and a dwarf daffodil have also opened a blossom in the meantime. The large crocus were all between the yellow irises and the day lilies that I got from my neighbour. (He wanted to throw them all away.)

Seit einer Woche oder mehr kommt bei uns ein Fasanenhahn zum Fressen, manchmal bringt er auch seine Madam mit. Zuerst waren sie sehr zurückhaltend, aber hetzt kann man hören, wenn sie da sind. Wenn sie zu zweit sind und man überrascht sie, dann fliegen sie panisch schreiend weg, wie das nur ein Fasan kann. Wenn er alleine ist, dann läuft er nur ins nächste Gebüsch. Ich habe ihn auch schon auf der Hauptstrasse spankulieren und rüber zu den anderen Häusern gehen sehen.

… A pheasant rooster has been coming to eat here for a week or more, and sometimes he also brings his madam with him. At first they were very cautious, but now you can hear them when they are there. When there are two of them and you surprise them, they fly away screaming in panic, like only a pheasant can. When he’s alone, he just walks into the nearest bush. I’ve seen him promenading on the main street and going over to the other houses.

Die ersten Stare sind angekommen und machen sich gleich über die Meisenkugeln her. Sie sind etwas akrobatischer als die Amseln, obwohl die es auch inzwischen gelernt haben.

… The first starlings have arrived and are starting right away to attack the tit balls. They are a little more acrobatic than the blackbirds, although they have also learned it by now.

Zuerst sollte dieses Video (wieder mal, denn ich finde die so schön) von den Zwergiris handeln. Aber dann entdeckte ich eine kolonorme Hummel auf der einen Pflanze. Es ist die einzige, die momentan bei uns im Garten herumsummt, und ich hoffe, dass es sich bei diesem Riesentier um eine Königin handelt, die hier ein Volk gründen will.

… First, this video should (again, because I think they are so beautiful) about the dwarf iris. But then I discovered a huge bumblebee on one plant. It’s the only one buzzing around in our garden at the moment, and I hope that this giant animal is a queen who wants to found a people here.

Ein Paar Nebelkrähen ist irgendwie fest bei uns eingezogen, wie jetzt auch das Fasanenpaar. Denen werfe ich Futter auf das Gras, denn sie kommen ungern dicht ans Haus. Dort fressen auch die Ringeltauben, Türktauben und das Dohlenpaar, ab und zu eine Elster, und wenn die Grossen nicht da sind, fressen dort auch kleinere Vögel. Die haben aber ansonsten ihre eigenen Futterplätze, wo die Grossen nicht hinkommen.

… A pair of hooded crows has moved in with us somehow, like the pheasant couple now. I throw them food on the grass because they don’t like coming close to the house. The wood pigeons, Turkish pigeons and the pair of jackdaws also eat there, and every now and then a magpie, and when the big ones are not there, smaller birds also eat there. Otherwise, they have their own feeding places where the big ones can’t reach.

Die Nebelkrähen haben Probleme mit den Spiegelbildern in den Fenstern, auf die sie ziemlich energisch loshacken. Das Video zeigt sie beim Nachbarhaus, das immer noch renoviert wird. Bei uns haben sie schon an Terrassentüren und Fenstern im ersten Stock geklopft. Neulich wollte mein Mann meine Aufmerksamkeit erheischen (ich war draussen im Garten) und klopfte ans Fenster. Ich schaute nach oben und dachte „nicht schon wieder die Krähe“. Er hat sich halb schief gelacht. Die Nebelkrähen sind nicht an Fensterscheiben gewöhnt; sie wohnen normalerweise in der Nähe von Feldern. Es ist ungewöhnlich, dass dieses Paar sich dazu entschieden hat, sich im Dorf niederzulassen. Mit solchen Entwicklungen müssen wir wohl in Zukunft immer mehr rechnen auf Grund der Zerstörung von Lebensräumen.

… The hooded crows have problems with the reflections in the windows, which they pick at rather vigorously. The video shows them at the neighboring house, which is still being renovated. With us they have already knocked on patio doors and windows on the first floor. The other day my husband wanted to get my attention (I was outside in the garden) and knocked on the window. I looked up and thought „not that crow again“. He nearly fell over laughing. The hooded crows are not used to windows; they usually live near fields. It is unusual that this couple decided to settle in the village. We will have to reckon more and more with such developments in the future due to the destruction of habitats.

Ich habe diverse Male versucht, sie filmisch zu erwischen. Deshalb habe ich mich hier buchstäblich um die Ecke geschlichen. Trotz allem sind sie noch sehr scheu und fliegen sofort weg, wenn sie einen bemerken.
… I have tried many times to catch them on video. Therefore, I literally snuck around the corner. Inspite of everything, they are still very shy and fly aways as soon as they notice you.

Das Vogelfutter wird knapp … Bird food is getting scarce

Man sollte es nicht glauben, aber Vogelfutter ist knapp geworden. Zuerst war alles in den Supermärkten ausverkauft, weil die Baumärkte geschlossen sind, und jetzt haben sogar die Baumärte kaum noch etwas. Nur im 75 km entfernten Hjørring konnten wir noch etwas bekommen (nur Abholung mit Vorausbezahlung online, man darf den Laden nicht betreten).

… One wouldn’t believe it, but bird food is getting scarce. First it was sold out in the supermarkets, as the hardware stores are closed, and now even the hardware stores have hardly anything. Only in Hjørring, 75 km away from us, we were able to get something (online order with prepaiment and then we could collect from the store. It is not possible to enter the store.)

Ich hatte am letzten Wochenende Singvogelfutter von einem Tierladen online bestellt und zwei kleine Futterhäuschen, damit ich Plätze schaffen kann, wo die Amseln nicht hinkommen können. Das Paket ist von der Post seit letztem Dienstag als „unterwegs“ gemeldet. In der Zwischenzeit habe ich eine Mischung aus Sonnenblumenkernen (die letzten drei kleinen Tüten aus dem Supermarkt), Erdnüssen und Haferflocken gefüttert. Für die Sumpfmeisen war nichts dabei, die blieben weg. Alle anderen passten sich an. Ausserdem habe ich zerkleinerte Meisenbällchen verfüttert, was auch gut angenommen wurde. Bei dieser momentanen Kälte brauchen die armen kleinen Dinger viel Fett.

… Last weekend I have ordered food for oscine birds from a pet shop including two small feeders, so that I can create spaces where the blackbirds can’t get to. The package is announced as being „on its way“ by the postal service since last Tuesday. In the meantime I have fed a blend of sunflower seeds (the last three small bags from the supermarket), peanuts and oats. The marsh tits didn’t like it and stayed away; the others adapted. I also put out some smothered fatballs (the ones for birds … 😉 ), which was very well accepted. With the cold that we have at present, the pour small critters need a lot of fat.

Nun habe ich jedenfalls einen grossen Sack Sonnenblumenkerne und einen noch grösseren mit Wildvogelfutter, was wohl bis Ende März reichen wird … hoffe ich. Dann müssen wir weitersehen. Wenn das Singvogelfutter kommt, sind die jedenfalls auch gut versorgt. Die Post kann gar nicht alle die geschickten Pakete so schnell ausliefern; alle bestellen ja über das Internet im Moment. Aber heute ging mir das Futter total aus; es musste also etwas passieren. Ich habe das Glück, einen Mann zu haben, der mit mir 75 km weit fährt, um Vogelfutter zu besorgen … 😉 🙂 ❤

… Anyway, now I am the proud owner of a large sack of sunflower seeds and an even larger with wild bird food, which – I hope – will last until the end of March. Then we will have to evaluate the situation. As soon as the oscine bird food arrives, they will be taken care of as well. The postal service cannot cope with the stream of parcels at the moment; everybody is ordering online. But today the food ran out completely; something had to be done. I am lucky to have a husband, who drives 47 miles with me to get food for the birds … 😉 🙂 ❤

Erfreuliche Neuigkeit … Good news

Er (sie?) lebt und ist nicht unterzukriegen, nicht einmal von den Amseln.

Das geniale Regendach hat der Sturm neulich weggefetzt.
… The brilliant rain protection has been ripped off by the storm.

Weil die Amseln sich so tyrannisch aufführen haben sich neue Fressmuster herauskristallisiert. Die Blaumeisen kommen meist, wenn keine anderen Vögel da sind, obwohl sie sich sowieso meisten nur ein Stück Erdnuss greifen und damit irgendwo in die Büsche abschwirren. Die Meisenkugeln, die vor dem Küchenfenster hingen, habe ich weiter vom Haus weg in das Rosenstativ gehängt, denn Madam Amsel jagte die Meisen weg, obwohl sie selber gar nicht dort fressen konnte. Wir haben Blaumeisen, Kohlmeisen und Sumpfmeisen. Letztere sind gar nicht mehr so scheu und beginnen schon zu fressen, wenn ich noch auf der Terrasse herumwerkele.

… As the blackbirds behave like bullies, new eating patterns have evolved. The blue tits usually visit, when no other birds are there, although they anyway only snatch a piece of peanut and fly off into one of the bushes with it. The balls for the tits, which were hanging near the kitchen window, I have moved further back into the rose trellis. Madam blackbird chased the tits away, although she herself could not even eat there. We have blue tits, great tits and marsh tits. The latter are not so shy anymore and even start feeding, when I am still busy on the terrace.

Ja, Geduld, im nächsten Monat bekomme ich einen neuen Laptop, dann kann ich endlich anfangen, meine Videos zu redigieren.

Die Amseln haben auch einen Weg gefunden, doch auf der schmalen Fensterbank zu landen, nämlich von der Seite; frontal klappt nicht, dann knallen sie mit dem Kopf ans Fenster. Man muss die ständig austricksen, damit die Kleinen eine Chance haben. Allerdings protestieren die Spatzen, wenn eine Amsel auf der Fensterbank sitzt. Anscheinend sehen sie das als ihr Territorium an. Wenn sich viele Spatzen zusammenrotten und schimpfen, gibt eine einzelne Amsel schon mal nach.

… And, of course, the blackbirds found a way to land on the narrow window sill, from the side. They cannot land otherwise without banging their heads at the window. However, the sparrows protest, when they see a blackbird on the window sill. It seems like they consider that their territory. When a lot of sparrows rot together and shout, a single blackbird is inclined to give in.

Es besuchen uns 2-3 Paar Buchfinken, meistens zusammen. Grünfinken habe ich dieses Jahr nicht gesehen. Die sind vielleicht dieses Jahr in den Süden gezogen?

… 2-3 pairs of chaffinches are visiting us, mostly together. I haven’t seen any greenfinches this year. Maybe they all flew south this year?

Ich hoffe, dass die Büsche in diesem Jahr schön gross werden, dann kann ich im nächsten Winter kleinere Futterstellen hineinhängen, die die Amseln nicht benutzen können. Die bekommen dann einen Futterplatz am Boden. Für die Tauben streue ich Sonnenblumenkerne ins Gras. Da können dann auch die anderen grossen Vögel fressen, die sowieso nicht gerne dicht ans Haus kommen, wie die Dohlen und die Elstern.

… I hope that the butterfly bushes grow up big this year, because then I can hang up small feeding places next winter, which the blackbirds cannot use. They will get a feeding place on the ground. For the pigeons I put out sunflower seeds on the grass. There also the other larger birds can feed, that do not like to come so close to the house, like the jackdaws and the magpies.

Trotzdem die Amseln solche Bullies sind, bin ich froh, dass es jetzt auf jeden Fall vier Weibchen sind. Das war schon traurig letztes Jahr mit nur einem. Bei den Spatzen sind es weiterhin nur sehr wenige Weibchen.

… Inspite of the blackbirds being such bullies, I am glad that there are at least four females this year. It was a bit sad with only one last year. The sparrow situation is unchanged, there are only very few females.

Jetzt seid ihr vogelmässig wieder auf dem Laufenden. Einen einzelnen Dompfaff habe ich übrigens auch einmal gesichtet. Habt noch einen schönen Tag!

Ohne Worte … Without comment

Oder fast ohne Worte. Ich habe am 24. und 25. ein paar kleine Videos gemacht, weil da gerade mal die Sonne schien und Vögel habe ich auch gefilmt, so als Unterhaltung bis zum neuen Jahr. Heute einer mit einer Blaumeise und zum Schluss tritt auch noch eine Sumpfmeise auf.

… Or almost without comment. I have taken a few videos on 24th and 25th December, because we had some sun those days, and I also filmed some birds, just as entertainment until the new year. Today you will see a blue tit and a little later a marsh tit makes its appearance.

Da waren lange keine Schlagzeilen. In diesen Zeiten tut sich ja auch nicht so viel …

… There haven’t been any headlines for some time, but in theses times not too much is happening …

Ihr wollt sicherlich brennend gerne wissen, wie es den beiden Pflanzen aus Fuerteventura geht. Nun, sie leben. Ich habe ihnen anscheinend zwischendurch mal zu wenig Wasser gegeben, einige neue Triebe sind eingetrocknet. Ich werde sie nächstes Jahr einfach mal rauspflanzen und sehen, was passiert. Im Winter muss ich sie dann eben wieder ins Haus nehmen. Vielleicht pflanze ich erst einmal nur eine nach draussen … 😉

… I bet you are deeply interested to know, how the two plants from Fuerteventura are faring. Well, they are alive. It seems like I have given them too little water in between, some of the new shoots dried off. Next year I will plant them out and see what happens. During winter I will have to take them back inside. Maybe I will plant only one of them outside … 😉


Vögel: Ich weiss nicht, wie viele es interessiert, aber seit dem Frühjahr haben wir des öfteren einen roten Milan über dem Dorf gesichtet. Das ist schon sehr ungewöhnlich, denn sie sind sehr selten und gehören zu den potenziell gefährdeten Arten. Auch findet man sie normalerweise nicht so dicht an menschlichen Ansiedlungen. Wir haben inzwischen auch einige Male ein Paar dieser tollen Vögel gesehen, und zwar zwischen den Dörfern Bælum und Solbjerg, wo es ein paar kleine Waldstücke gibt. Ich nehme mal an, dass sie sich dort niedergelassen haben. Auch die Raubvögel passen sich an und geben sich mit weniger Platz zufrieden.

An der Futterstelle war bereits ein Stieglitz und diverse Sumpfmeisen, die ansonsten immer erst später auftauchen. Wir haben auch einen Zaunkönig ansässig unter der Südterrasse. Das Rotkehlchen haben wir allerdings seit dem Frühjahr nicht mehr gesehen. 😦 Dafür sind wieder mehr weibliche Amseln zur Stelle.

… Birds: I am not sure, how many are interested, but since spring we have spottet a red kite over the village now and then. That is quite unusual, as they are rare and belong to the NT (near threatened) species. Usually they are not to be found so close to human settlements either. In the meantime we have seen a pair of these magnificent birds between the villages Bælum and Solbjerg, where there are two smaller wooded areas. I take it that they have settled down there. Even the birds of prey adapt and make do with lesser space.

… At the feeding place we could already see a goldfinch and some marsh tits, which usually visit us later on. And we have a wren living under the south terrace. We have not seen the robin since last spring. 😦 But on the other hand there are more female blackbirds again.

Musik: Wir spielen eifrig, unsere Sängerin verbessert ihre Stimme. Sie hat Probleme mit den höheren Tönen, aber es wird immer besser. Wir haben nicht so viele neue Stücke dazugenommen, aber doch ein paar, z. B. zwei von Neighbours and Friends, „Sommeren er her“ (der Sommer ist da) und „Sangen til livet“ (Das Lied ans Leben); von den Beatles „Sgt. Pepper“ mit anschliessendem „With a little help from my friends“; von Kim Larsen „Midt om natten“ (mitten in der Nacht, ein Hausbesetzer-Lied); von Chuck Berry „Rock’n Roll Music“; und last but not least von John Mogensen „Der er noget galt i Danmark“ (da stimmt was nicht in Dänemark). Die Lieder von Kim Larsen und John Mogensen sind ja schon ziemlich alt, aber doch so ewig aktuell, besonders jetzt gerade. Sieh an, das sind doch mehr als ich gedacht habe …

Die so genannten Weihnachtskakteen, die den ganzen November über geblüht haben, jedes Jahr wieder schön. Sie blühen grundsätzlich wann immer sie wollen. Wenn sie jetzt im November blühen, kann ich Glück haben, dass sie im Februar noch einmal loslegen. Normalerweise blühen sie nacheinander und nicht gleichzeitig. Sie haben aber auch schon mal im Sommer geblüht, sehr eigenwillig.

… The so called Christmas cacti, which have flowered all November; every year with untiring beauty. They principally flower whenever they feel like it. When they flower in November, I can be lucky and they do it again in February. Usually they don’t flower at the same time, but one after the other. One year they happened to flower in summer, very wilful.


Das mehr als menschenrechtsübergreifende Epidemigesetz, das unsere Staatsministerin gerne durchdrücken wollte mit z. B. Impfzwang, Zwangseinweisung, Zwangsentfernung von Kindern, alleinige Entscheidungsgewalt des Gesundheitsministers zu Zeiten einer Epidemie inklusive Verfügungsgewalt über Polizei und Armee etc., etc. (die Frau schnappt langsam über), ist erst einmal vom Tisch, denn keine der anderen Parteien wollte dieses Gesetz mit all dem Zwang und der Macht in der Hand einer einzelnen Person. Seit der Geschichte mit den Nerzen ist die Opposition „aus ihrer Lähmung erwacht“, wie ein Journalist es nannte. Die müssen gerade lästern, denn die berichten total selektiv. Die täglichen Demonstrationen gegen das drohende Epidemie-Gesetz vor dem Parlamentsgebäude in Kopenhagen wurden fast gar nicht genannt. Wir sind auf jeden Fall erst einmal erleichtert.

Ich habe nunmehr alle meine Geranien ins Haus gerettet, nun ist das Gästezimmer belegt … und der Frost erst einmal wieder vorbei. 😉 Na, das Sofa kann man noch in ein Doppelbett verwandeln, aber ansonsten ist da nicht mehr viel Platz.

Adventszeit, die Erwartung von Christi Geburt: Die meisten Leute in Dänemark fangen mit Weihnachtsdekoration und -beleuchtung am ersten Advent an. Nachstehend ein paar von unseren. Die orthodoxen Christen feiern Weihnachten erst an den Heiligen drei Königen (6. Januar).

Mein treuer Tischadventskranz, der so um die 25 Jahre alt ist, verblichen, von Mäusen angeknabbert, mit kleinen Päckchen und Kugeln ergänzt, immer noch dekorativ.

Für die Uhr war nicht viel Schmuck übrig, warum seht ihr später. Die Lichterkette an der Wand haben wir gar nicht zwischendurch abgenommen. An dunklen Abenden ist es so gemütlich, wenn sie leuchtet.

… There wasn’t much decoration left for the clock, why, you will see later. The light chain at the wall we haven’t taken down at all in between. It is so cosy on dark evenings, when it is lit.

Und dann will ich euch von der unerträglichen Spannung erlösen: in der Gewürztüte war tatsächlich Knoblauchpulver. Ich habe also wirklich aus Versehen das erhalten, was ich brauchte und nicht das, was ich bestellt hatte. 😉 😀 😀

Nachtigallenweg im Østerådal in der Stadt Aalborg
Es gibt ihn noch, wir haben nachgeschaut. Man hat allerdings alle die Gegenstände entfernt, die ich beim allerersten Mal für die Ausstattung einer Asen-Gebetsstätte gehalten hatte. Der Teich ist ausgetrocknet, aber die Sandkiste ist noch da und wird ganz offensichtlich auch benutzt. Der Zustand des Weges zeigt, dass dort doch regelmässig Leute gehen. Ihr werdet es kaum glauben, aber wir hatten keine Kamera dabei. Nächstes Mal mache ich einen kleinen Film.

It still exists, we had a look. However, all the items that I at the first visit mistook for things that were being used for heathen worship, have been taken away. The little pond is dried out, but the sandbox for the children is still there and it is obviously being used. The condition of the path shows that people walk there regularly. You will not believe it, but we did not have any kind of camera on us. Next time I will make a video.

Apfelbäume
Der erste, der dann gleich von Blattläusen angefallen wurde, bekam etwas verdrehte Blätter, normalisiert sich jetzt aber.

Der zweite wurde nicht nur von Blattläusen, sondern auch von einer kleinen Raupe attackiert, die ich dann rausgesetzt habe. Die hat ein ganzes Blatt vernascht. Dadurch kommt jetzt an der Stelle ein zusätzlicher Trieb, was etwas beengt aussieht. Die werden wahrscheinlich über Kreuz wachsen.

… The second one was not only jumped upon by aphids, but also by a little caterpillar, which I have banned to the garden. It had eaten an entire leaf. Therefore, at that spot two new shoots are forming, which make it look a bit crowded. It looks like they will grow crossing each other.

Der dritte und kleinste behauptet sich tapfer und scheint besser mit der Blattlausplage klarzukommen als die anderen. Seine Blätter sind kürzer und rundlicher in der Form. Eigentlich sieht er gar nicht so aus wie die anderen beiden.

… The third and smallest is keeping up bravely and seems to cope better with the aphids than the other two. Its leaves are shorter and a bit more roundish. It actually does not look so much like the others.

Vogelsichtungen
Wir hatten ein paarmal einen Milan im Dorf, ob einen schwarzen oder roten, konnte ich nicht erkennen. Da wir auch eine Menge Krähen haben, hatte er nicht viel entspannte Zeit. Haben beide Sorten Milane diesen zweispitzigen Schwanz mit Schwung in der Mitte?
Als wir dann über Land fuhren sahen wir ein Paar kreisen, das anscheinend irgendwo zwischen Bælum und Solbjerg in einem Wäldchen zuhause ist. So weit ist das nicht von uns entfernt, es können also durchaus dieselben Vögel gewesen sein.

… Bird sightings
We saw a kite a few times in the village, red or black I could not make out. As we also have a lot of crows, it had a hard time. Do both kinds of kites have these tails with two points?
When we drove through the countryside, we sighted a pair of them; it seems to live somewhere between Bælum and Solbjerg in one of the small patches of trees. That is not so far away from us, so it could have been the same birds.

Wenn ich mir die Bilder so ansehe, waren „unsere“ wohl schwarze Milane. Imponierende Vögel jedenfalls.

… Looking at the photos, I guess „our’s“ were black kites. Impressive birds in any case!

Auch Steinadler haben wir im Wildmose gesehen, gleich an der Einfahrt, wo es zum Indiana-Jones-Pfad geht. Sie flogen ziemlich tief, drei Stück, einer etwas kleiner, kann das eine Familie gewesen sein? Ich habe sonst nie drei auf einmal gesehen. Mäusebussarde habe ich schon in Vierergruppen gesehen, aber bisher keine anderen Raubvögel.

… We also sighted golden eagles in Vildmose, short after the entrance, where one gets to the Indiana-Jones-path. They were flying quite low, three of them, one a bit smaller, maybe a family? I have never seen three of them at the same time. European buzzards I have seen in groups of four, but never other birds of prey.

Glückstreffer … I got lucky

Wir hatten wieder Besuch vom Sperber, und dieses Mal gelang es mir ihn zu fotografieren. Er hat mich sogar gesehen, aber das schien ihn nicht zu stören, der hatte die Ruhe weg. Ein schöner Vogel!

… The sparrowhawk visited again, and this time I managed to take fotos. He even saw me, but it did not seem to matter much to him, he had no worry in the world. A beautiful bird!

Für das letzte Foto bin ich direkt ans Fenster gegangen. Dort waren wir nur 2-2,5 m voneinander entfernt.  Auch das störte ihn nicht. Er flog erst weg, als ich das Fenster öffnete. Ich habe an dem Tag vorsichtshalber kein Futter für die kleinen Vögel ausgelegt. Mein Mann sagt, genau so ein Vogel ist letztes Jahr mit der Türkentaube abgeschwirrt, kaum grösser als die Beute.

… For the last foto, I placed myself directly at the window. There we had only 6.6-8.2 feet distance between us. But even that did not disturb him. He only flew away, when I opened the window. That day – as a precaution – I did not put food out for the small birds. My husband says that it was a bird like that, that flew off with one of the collared doves last year, hardly bigger than the prey.
