Viele Grautöne im Moment …The grey scale is prevailing right now

Ganz kurz eine Bemerkung für die Vogelgucker unter uns: Ich habe drei Grünfinkenmännchen und ein -weibchen am Futterplatz gesehen. Die Anzahl hat sich also zum letzten Jahr verdoppelt. Vielleicht sind da noch mehr Weibchen, ich kann sie manchmal nicht von den Buchfinkenweibchen unterscheiden. Warum erwähne ich das überhaupt? Weil die Zahl der Grünfinken generell drastisch schwindet.

… A very short remark for the bird watchers among us: I have spied three greenfinch males and one female at the feeders. Their number has therewith doubled from last year. There may be more females, I have sometimes difficulties to tell them apart from the chaffinch females. Why do I mention this at all? Because the number of greenfinches in general is dwindling drastically.

Nun aber zur Grauzone … … And now to the grey zone …

Der Weg ist unter Wasser, aber mit Gummistiefeln geht es noch.
— The path is flooded, but with wellies one can still walk there.
Die Leute versuchen wirklich alles, um die Küste zu retten. Alle Baumstämme von entwurzelten Bäumen und anderer Holzabfall wird an die Küste gebracht und dort verankert. Man muss dazu sagen, dass die anliegenden Grundstücke fast ausschliesslich in Privatbesitz sind, selbst wenn man die Wege benutzen darf. Die Küstenbefestigung hier ist damit eine reine Privatinitiative.
… People are really trying everything to save the coast. All logs from uprooted trees and other wood debris is used to fill in the gaps. I need to mention that the adjacent properties are almost all in private hands, even if it is allowed to use the hiking paths. In other words, the coast fixation is a purely private initiative.
Was wir an dem Morgen an Sonne hatten, war dann gegen Mittag schon wieder von Wolken bedeckt.
… The sun that we had in the morning, was already covered by clouds again by midday.

Gestern hatten wir einen ganzen Tag Sonne, das heisst im Januar hatten wir bereits 1 2/2 Sonnentage! 🙂

… Yesterday we had an entire day of sunshine. That means that in January we had already 1 2/2 sun days! 🙂

Spaziergang mit Hindernissen … A walk with obstacles

Heute wollten wir mal nicht im Hafen von Østerhurup spazieren, sondern am Wasser entlang. Am Parkplatz begrüsster uns folgender Anblick:

Wo ist der Strandstreifen abgeblieben?
… Where did the strip of beach go?

So hohen Wasserstand haben wir hier noch nicht gesehen. Aber naja, wir gehen rechts um die „Lagune“ herum. Das Wasser kommt ziemlich dicht an den Weg, auch ungewöhnlich.

… We have not seen such a high water level here yet. Well, we walk to the right around the „lagune“. The water is close to the path, also unusual.


Ja, und dann war Schluss. Ihr könnt noch sehen, wo der Weg weitergeht, aber man braucht jetzt Gummistiefel. Die Saison hat offiziell angefangen.

… O.k., this was it then. You can still see, where the path is supposed to be, but we really need wellies now. The season has officially started.

Ist schon wieder vorbei, wie gut, dass wir den kurzen Moment ausgenutzt haben! Haltet die Ohren steif alle zusammen …

Cooling von West … Gales from the west

Am letzten Mittwoch schauten wir in Løgstør nach dem Rechten, ob die neuen Hochwasserbarrieren Stand gehalten haben. Man kann wohl sagen, dass ohne die zusätzlichen Barrieren alle Häuser an der Wasserkante bereits wieder vollgelaufen wären, wie sie es jedes Jahr waren, bevor diese errichtet wurden.

… Last Wednesday we had a look around Løgstør to see how the new flood protection is holding up. I dare say, without it the houses at the water front would have been flooded again, like they used to be every year until they built the walls.

Beim Kanal sieht es etwas anders aus. Wenn das Wasser vom Westwind in den Limfjord gedrückt wird, gibt das Hochwasser in allen Seitenarmen und eben auch in dem Kanal in Løgstør. Die Anlegestege sind irgendwo da unten, unter 2 m Wasser.

… At the canal the situation is a bit different. When the westwind presses the water into the Lilmfjord, all sidearms are flooded, and therewith also the canal in Løgstør. The jetties are somewhere down there below 7 feet of water.

Der „Strand“ ist weg (bestand hauptsächlich aus Muscsheln, daher in Anführungszeichen). An der Farbe des Wassers kann man sehen, bis wohin der einmal ging.

… The „beach“ has disappeared (it consisted mainly of sea shells, therefore the quotation marks). You can see from the colour of the water, where the beach had been.

Hier der aktuelle Wasserstand, wie gesagt, es war am abebben. aber diese Woche soll noch stärkerer Wind kommen, erst von Süd, dann wieder von West. Bei gleichem Wasserstand wie 1981, plätschert es vielleicht nur ein wenig über, aber beim Stand von 2005 nützen die Barrieren nichts mehr. Wir drücken Løgstør die Daumen.

… And here the actual water level. As mentioned, the water was receding at this point. But this week stronger winds are expected, first from the south, later again from the west. At the same water level as in 1981, maybe some water will splash over the barriers, but at the level of 2005, they won’t be of any use anymore. We cross fingers for Løgstør.
