Eine kleine Überraschung: Mein Rosenkohl hat tatsächlich kleine Köhlchen gebildet, und das, nachdem die Pflanzen dreimal von Schnecken abgefressen worden sind. Sie sind aber so klein, dass es sich nicht lohnt, sie zu ernten. Ich werde es aber dieses Jahr wieder versuchen in einem der Kästen.

Die letzten zwei Wochen waren wir krank, nichts Gefährliches, aber doch recht erkältet. Aber daher ist hier nicht viel passiert, weder im Garten, noch ausflugmässig. Wir teilen uns die Arbeit: ich schniefe, der Gentleman hustet. Wir hatten relativ mildes Wetter, zwischen 13 und 15 Grad Celsius, daher rafften wir uns zu zwei kleinen Spaziergängen am Kattegat auf, damit wir nicht ganz einrosten.

Bevor wir krank wurden hatten wir ein paar Tage lieben Besuch aus Seeland und haben drei schöne Tage verbracht. Wir waren unter anderem in Løgstør, und sind den neuen Weg oben an der Steilküste entlanggegangen und in Mariager, ihr könnt euch sicherlich daran erinnern, der Ausflug mit dem Salzmuseum.

Endlich habe ich auch wieder Liköre angesetzt, in 14 Tagen können die ersten probiert werden. Den Kaffeelikör habe ich dieses Mal mit gemahlenem Kaffee angesetzt. Ich verspreche mir stärkeren Kaffeegeschmack davon. Als Gewürze habe ich Vanille, etwas Zimt und Kardamom hinzugefügt, aber in kleinen Mengen.

Nicht zuletzt habe ich einen Dropbox-Link zu einem Musikvideo für euch. Wir haben zwei Stücke eingespielt bevor wir krank wurden, aber mein Mann war mit seinem Gitarrensolo nicht zufrieden, so dass wir die Aufnahme wiederholen werden. Das Video am anderen Ende des Links ist eine Übungsversion (der Ton war auch nicht ganz richtig ausbalanciert). Ich stelle die Musikvideos erst einmal nicht mehr bei YouTube ein, weil da jetzt Copyright-Probleme auftauchen. Beim letzten Musikvideo war da jemand aus Brasilien, der Copyright anmeldete, obwohl es sich um ein Stück von Kim Larsen handelte. Ich frage mich, was da vor sich geht …
… Last but not lease I have a Dropbox link to a music video for you. Before we got sick, we had recorded two songs, but my husband was not satisfied with his guitar solo, so that we will repeat the recordings. So the one that is on the other side of the link is a rehearsal version (the sound wasn’t balanced correctly either). I will not put music videos on YouTube for the time being, because there are copyright problems arising. With the last music video there was somebody from Brasil, who claimed copyright, although it was a song by Kim Larsen. I wonder what is going on there …

Diese feinen weissen, gepunkteten Tierchen hielt ich natürlich für eine Art Schmetterlingsraupe.

Aber nein, meine Suche im Internet ergab, dass es sich um eine Allantus scrophulariae handelt (früher hiess sie Tenthredo scrophulariae), eine Braunwurz-Blattwespe oder auch Königskerzen-Sägewespe. Da ich keine Braunwurz im Garten habe, haben sie sich auf dem Verbascum nigra niedergelassen. Die Blätter der Ackerwinde werden allerdings auch gleich mitverspeist. Ich wollte die Staude eigentlich von dort entfernen, um den Rhododendren etwas mehr Platz zu verschaffen, aber jetzt warte ich erst einmal, denn diese kleinen Wespen möchte ich auch weiterhin im Garten haben. Sie fressen andere kleine Insekten (Mücken??? 😉 )
… But no, my research on the internet showed that it was a so called Allantus scrophulariae (former name Tenthredo scrophulariae), a figwort sawfly. As I don’t have any figwort in my garden, they had settled on the Verbascum nigra. They did not spurn the leaves of the bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) either. My plan was to dig the plant out to relieve the rhododendrons, but now I will wait, because I would like to have these small wasps in my garden in future as well. They eat other small insects (gnats??? 😉 )
Bei „Dave’s garden“ fand ich eine kurze Erklärung: Der alte Name war Tenthredo scrophulariae, aber gemäss Wikipedia wurde er auf Allantus scrophulariae abgeändert. Die Larve ähnelt einer Raupe sehr. Sie ernähren sich von Pflanzen der Scrophulariaceae-Familie. Die Larve lebt vegetarisch, aber die ausgewachsene Wespe jagt andere kleine Insekten.
… At „Dave’s garden“ I found following short description: Its old name was Tenthredo scrophulariae, but according to Wikipedia that has been changed to Allantus scrophulariae. Its larva looks very much like a caterpillar. They feed on plants of the Scrophulariaceae family. The larva is vegetarian but the adult wasp hunts on other small insects.

Ich habe dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal Gladiolen gehabt. Ich will ja eigentlich nicht, weil wir hier immer so starken Wind haben. Aber die Tüte mit 24 Stück (gemischte Farben) war im Sonderangebot … 😉 … Ich habe sie dann in drei Töpfe zu 7, 7 und 10 gepflanzt. Von den 24 haben 21 geblüht bzw. blühen noch. Wir hatten den Genuss den ganzen August über, weil immer nur jeweils 1-2 per Topf geblüht haben. Das war doch nett von den Gladiolen. Farbmässig waren es 1 Rote, 6 Rosa, 13 Lila (3 verschiedene) und als letztes jetzt eine ganz dunkel Rote; die Knospen sehen schwarz aus.

Und dann mein schöner, duftender Phlox. Davon habe ich sechs verschiedene. Die eine Pflanze mit den dunklen Knospen, aber hellen Blüten (unten links) muss eine Mischung von zwei der anderen sein, denn niemand in den umliegenden Gärten hat so einen. Die Pflanze ist auch noch ganz klein mit nur drei Stielen.
… And then my beautiful, fragrant phlox. I have six different ones. The one with the dark buds, but light flowers (down left) must be a blend of two of the others, as none of my neighbours has one like that. The plant is still very small with only three stilks.
Die Herbstblüher sind schon eifrig an der Arbeit.

Helenium autumnale
Eine kleine Hortensie zwischen den Rhododendren. Ich habe sie schon 4 Jahre, aber sie hat dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal geblüht. Sie macht einen gesunden Eindruck.
… A smal hydrangea in between the rhododendrons. It has been there for 4 years already, but this year it flowered for the first time. It seems to be healthy.
Und dies ist in meinen Augen die schönste Geranie, die ich je gehabt habe.

Ich habe noch zwei kleine Filme für euch. Der erste zeigt meinen Schmetterlingsfütterungsversuch. Ich kann nur sagen das klappt. Die Schmetterlinge sind nämlich verspätet, die geeigneten Blüher aber schon weitgehend abgeblüht. Deshalb wollte ich sehen, ob die Fütterungsalternative funktioniert. Eine Wespe will da auch naschen, was der Admiral nicht so gerne sieht. Sie ist aber nicht so leicht zu verscheuchen, wie die Fliegen. Ich habe übrigens (bisher) den ganzen Sommer über bei uns nur zwei Wespen gesehen, Bienen undHummeln aller Grössen dagegen zuhauf.
… I have two small videos for you. The first one shows my butterfly feeding trial. It works. The thing is that the butterflies have arrived with delay, and the adequate flowers are mostly gone now. I wanted to see, if the feeding alternative would work. There is also a wasp that wants to nibble, but the Admiral is not enthusiastic about that. However, he can’t chase it of as easily as the flies. By the way, I have only seen two wasps (until now) in our garden all summer, but bumblebees and bees galore.
Das zweite zeigt eine Hummel, die total in einer Blüte der Chelone obliqua (rote Schildblume) verschwindet. Ich habe sie beim Verlassen der Blüte eingefangen. Sie sah total verpuschelt aus, so viel Platz war da wohl doch nicht.
… The second one shows a bumblebee that completely disappears in a flower of Chelone obliqua (pink turtlehead). I caught it when it came out again. It looked totally tousled, I guess there wasn’t so much room in there.
Meine Gemüseprojekte haben mir viel Spass gemacht. Wir haben immer noch Wurzeln, Bohnen und Schalotten. Die letzten Erbsen haben wir heute verspeist. Ich werde das nächstes Jahr wieder versuchen.

Diese Rose muss ich euch kurz einmal vorstellen. Ich habe sie im letzten Herbst vom Topf ausgepflanzt, weil ich sie nicht auch noch verlieren wollte, wie die Victor Hugo. Aber Ingrid ist härter im Nehmen als Victor. Sie ist dieses Jahr zwar noch klein, aber fein.

Obwohl sie nicht besonders stark duftet, hat sie viele – auch internationale – Preise gewonnen wegen ihrer Farbe, Blütenform, dem schönen Laub und ihrer Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Krankheiten.

Nächstes Jahr werde ich das Beet etwas besser organisieren. Die Behälter auf den Paletten funktionieren ja gut. Schnittlauch werde ich allerdings nur noch im Haus aussäen, denn der fängt viel zu schnell an zu blühen und wird dann hart.

Mitbewohner: Hier schwärmt es nur so mit Hummeln in allen Grössen. Schmetterlinge waren noch nicht so viele zu sehen, ein paar kleine Füchse und ein Admiral.

Eines Abends fand ich diesen Falter. Erst dachte ich, das wäre ein Kohlweissling, aber die haben nicht so einen schönen Pelz.

Eines Morgens wollte ein ca. 3,5 cm langes, wespenartiges Untier in unser Schlafzimmer eindringen. Zum Glück haben wir Fliegennetze vor den Fenstern, die wir öffnen. Als ich dann auf unseren Balkon im ersten Stock ging, sah ich ein paar Bienen, die in ein ziemlich grosses Loch in der Wand flogen. Beide Geländer waren nicht richtig zugemacht, wo sie in der Wand sitzen. Aha, dachte ich, das grosse Tier war wohl die Königin? Aber sollte die nicht im Nest sitzen, wenn sie schon ein Volk hat? Wir sassen dann zum Frühstück unter dem Balkon mit aufgespanntem Sonnenschirm und hörten, wie es oben mehr und mehr summte. Wir stellten fest, dass eine rege Tätigkeit im Gange war und einzelne Bienen, uns als Eindringlinge ansahen. Schneller Rückzug war angesagt. Am Abend waren sie dann plötzlich alle weg. Hatten sie dort vielleicht nur Baumaterial geholt? Unser Hauswirt hat die Löcher dann elegant (Ironie) zugekleistert. Am nächsten Morgen kamen dann noch ein paar Bienen, flogen aber unverrichteter Dinge weg, als sie die Materialquelle verschlossen fanden.
… One morning, an approximately 3.5 cm long, wasp-like beast wanted to enter our bedroom. Luckily we have fly nets in front of the windows that we open. Then when I went to our first floor balcony, I saw some bees flying into a rather big hole in the wall. Both railings were not properly fastened where they sit in the wall. Aha, I thought, the big animal was probably the queen? But shouldn’t she be sitting in the nest when she already has a colony? We then sat for breakfast under the balcony with the parasol open and heard how it was humming more and more upstairs. We found that there was a lot of activity going on and individual bees viewed us as intruders. A quick retreat was the order of the day. In the evening they were suddenly all gone. Perhaps they had only fetched building materials there? Our landlord then elegantly (irony) pasted up the holes. A few more bees came the next morning, but flew away empty handed, when they found the source of the material closed.
Das Untier sahen wir an einem anderen Morgen wieder, auf der Nordterrasse. Es handelte sich um eine Hornisse. Sie flog in einen Spalt im Dach der Scheune. Das haben wir unserem Hauswirt nicht erzählt, der kommt dann wohlmöglich mit Gift. Wir haben sie seitdem nicht wieder gesehen. Sie sind sehr diskret und interessieren sich nicht für unser Essen. Vielleicht hatten wir deshalb letztes Jahr keine Mücken und Wespen? Dieses Jahr habe ich bisher auch nur eine Wespe gesehen. Bienen und Hummeln scheinen sie ja nicht zu fressen.
… We saw the beast again another morning, on the north terrace. It was a hornet. It flew into a crack in the barn roof. We didn’t tell our landlord, he’ll probably come along with poison. We haven’t seen it since then. They are very discreet and don’t care about our food. Maybe that’s why we didn’t have any mosquitoes and wasps last year? I’ve only seen one wasp so far this year. They don’t seem to eat bees and bumblebees.

Ihr habt ja im Layout meiner Seite mitbekommen, was da inzwischen bei mir so blüht. Immer wenn etwas Neues anfängt, versuche ich das Bild zu verändern und eine passende Farbe zu finden. Bei den letzten drei Fotos passte ja das Grün. Aber es kommt so viel Neues, dass ich da nicht nachkomme. 🙂

Im Moment ist grosse Glockenblumenzeit. Es fing mit einer weissen und einer relativ dunkel blauen Pflanze an. Jetzt habe ich ganz viele verschiedene Blautöne, u. a. ein so helles, dass man es fast mit weiss verwechseln kann. Die allerneueste Variation: eine weisse mit zartem, hellblauen Rand an den Blütenblättern. Natur ist doch wunderbar!

Now I have all kinds of blue hues, among others a so light one that it could be mistaken for white. The latest variation: a white one with delicate, light blue rim on the petals. How wonderful nature is!

Es handelt sich hierbei um Pflanzen, die sich selber bei mir angesiedelt haben, und zwar Wildpflanzen und so genannte Kulturpflanzen, und keine von meinen eigenen, die sich selber weitergesät haben, was natürlich auch passiert.

Was ich zwischen den Rhododendren zunächst für Christrosen gehalten habe, entpuppte sich als Pfingstrosen. Die eine blüht noch nicht, die andere zeigt eindeutig Ansatz zu einer dunkelroten Blüte. Ich habe nur auf der anderen Seite des Gartens eine Pfingstrose, und die blüht weiss.

Hinter diesem nichtssagenden Zaun hat jemand eine fantasievolle Gartenmauer gebaut. Eine alte Ruine wurde mitbenutzt und dann mit vielen verschiedenen Zutaten ergänzt, fast schon etwas Hundertwasser-artig.
