Der Frühling kommt langsam …Spring is coming slowly

Während es in England und Deutschland schon nach Herzenslust blüht, haben wir hier jetzt erst die ersten, zaghaften „Emporkömmlinge“.

… While in England and Germany the spring flowers are already frolicking in the gardens, we only have the very first, timid „upstarts“.

Die Schneeglöckchen sind jetzt überall, aber ich habe nur ein einziges Grüppchen mit Erantis.
… The snowdrops are everywhere now, but I only have one little group of winter aconites.
Die schönen Knospen der dunkelblauen Zwergiris.
… The beautiful buds of the dark blue dwarf iris.
Die hellblauen Zwergiris sind auch bald soweit.

Eine kleine Überraschung: Mein Rosenkohl hat tatsächlich kleine Köhlchen gebildet, und das, nachdem die Pflanzen dreimal von Schnecken abgefressen worden sind. Sie sind aber so klein, dass es sich nicht lohnt, sie zu ernten. Ich werde es aber dieses Jahr wieder versuchen in einem der Kästen.

… A little surprise: my brussels sprouts have produced some small sprouts, and that after having been eaten three times by snails. But they are so small that it is not worth the while to harvest them. I will try again this year, but in one of the containers.


Meine Araukarie hat etwas unter dem Frost gelitten, aber der Spitze geht es gut.

… My araucaria has suffered a bit during the frosts, but the top is fine.

Ich sehe gerade, dass die Tulpe orangefarben ist. Die anderen beiden waren rosa. Die letzte blüht jetzt. gerade.

… I just notice that the tulip was orange coloured. The other two were pink. The last one is just flowering.


Die setze ich später alle in die Beete. Weisse Perlhyazinthen habe ich noch nicht.

… I will put them all into the flower beds later on. I haven’t got any white muscari yet.

Ab Sonnabend ist wieder Nachtfrost angesagt, seufz.

… As of Saturday, the night frosts will return, sigh.

Ein wenig Frühling in der Stube … A bit of Spring in the living room

Das brauche ich in dieser Jahreszeit zumindest einmal. Hinterher werden sie in den Garten gepflanzt. Die Tulpe heisst „red paradise“ (rotes Paradies)

… I need that at this time of year at least once. Afterwards they get planted out in the garden. The tulip is called „red paradise“.

Auch im Garten herrscht ja schon Frühling. Die Schneeklöckchen geben überall im Beet weisse Farbtupfer. Die Zwergiris sollen ja im Februar blühen, also gehe ich davon aus, dass sie den kommenden Nachtfrost abkönnen. Die Primeln werde ich etwas zudecken.

… Also in the garden the spring seems to be coming. The snowdrops makewhite dots all over the flower beds. The dwarf iris are supposed to flower in February, so I take it that they can resist a bit of night frost. The primulas I will cover up a bit.

Das blüht im Garten hier und jetzt … Here and now flowering in the garden

Eine vorwitzige, verfrühte Anemone de Caën, etwas gefüllt sogar, wunderschön.

… A nosy, very early anemone de Caën, with a bit filled flower, beautiful.

Eine Sorte Lungenkraut blüht bereits. Das mit den blauen Blüten treibt gerade erst Blätter.

… One kind of lungwort is already flowering. The kind with the blue flowers is just pushing up leaves.

Der Steingarten. Die Zäune werde ich entfernen, die sind nicht mehr in so gutem Zustand. Ich weiss nur noch nicht, ob ich das Beet einfach offen lasse oder ob ich Baumstämmchen als Kante benutze, wie im Rhododendronbeet gegenüber.

… The rockery. I will take the little fences away, they are in bad shape. I just don’t know yet, whether I will leave the flower bed open or use small tree stumps as border like I did around the rhododendron bed on the other side.

Und aus dem Portland-Mose der erste Blüher. Die Blätter sehen aus wie Gras, aber dann hat es diese puscheligen, hellgelben Blüten. Ich weiss nicht was es ist.

… And the first flower producer from Portland-Moor. The leaves resemble grass, but it has these round and softish, light yellow flowers. I don’t know what it is.

Täglich strecken sich mehr Blatttriebe aus der Erde, es ist eine Freude zu sehen.

… Every day more leaves are coming up from the soil, it is a pleasure to watch.

Der Garten ruft … The garden is calling

Alle die Pflanzen auf den nachstehenden Fotos warten ungeduldig darauf, wieder hinauszudürfen … Oleander, Geranien und Inka-Lilien und das Bäumchen, dass merkwürdigerweise „Kartoffelblume“ genannt wird. Es gibt sie mit blauen und weissen Blüten, meiner ist weiss. Ich habe gerade mal nachgeschaut, er heisst „Solanum rantonetti“.

… All the plants on the photos below are impatiently waiting for the day, when they can get outside again … Oleander, geraniums, alstromeria, and a tree that strangely bears the name „potato flower“. There are some with white flowers and some with blue ones; mine has white flowers. I just looked it up, it is called „Solanum rantonetti“.

Meine Nachbarin brachte eine Schubkarre voll mit Schneeglöckchen und ein paar Eranthis vorbei, die ich die letzten Tage laufend in die Beete gepflanzt habe. Das sieht doch gleich viel freundlicher aus. Narzissen, Tulpen, Krokus und Perlhyazinthen stecken ihre Blätter hervor. Die Stauden kommen mit neuen Trieben. Sogar eine Anemone mit Knospe habe ich gesehen. Der Garten glaubt tatsächlich, der Frühling ist gekommen. Am gespanntesten bin ich auf die Rhododendronblüte, aber da werde ich mich wohl noch etwas gedulden müssen.

… My neighbour came by with a wheelbarrow full of snowdrops and a few Eranthis, which I have planted all over the garden during the last days. It looks a lot friendlier now. Daffodils, tulips, crocus and hyacinths are pushing their leaves up. The perennials are shooting. I even saw an anemone with a bud. The garden really thinks that it is spring. I am most excited about the rhododendron blossom, but I guess I will have to be patient a bit longer.

Frühling in die Stube bringen … to bring spring into the living room

Angespornt durch einen wunderschönen Strauss Tulpen von Frau Meermond, habe ich mal wieder bei Mini-Narzissen zugegriffen und zwei kleine Anordnungen in Glasgefässen gemacht. Später pflanze ich sie dann nach draussen. Wir hatten Sonne und blauen Himmel an dem Tag, aber immer noch Frost. Trotzdem kamen die Frühlingsgefühle durch … 😉

… Triggered by a beautiful bouquet of tulips from Mrs. Meermond, I have grabbed the last two pots of mini daffodils at the local supermarket and made two arrangements in glass containers. Later on I will plant them out. We have sunshine and blue sky at the moment, though temperatures are still below zero. But the spring feelings came through anyway … 😉
