Mit einem neuen Regelwerk möchte die Europäische Union Standards für nachhaltiges Wirtschaften festlegen. Doch wenn es nach der EU-Kommission geht, sollen in der so genannten „Taxonomie“ auch Erdgas und Atomkraft als nachhaltige Formen der Energieerzeugung eingestuft werden! Das wäre ein Greenwashing-GAU, denn dieser Etikettenschwindel würde milliardenschwere Fehlinvestitionen in veraltete Technologien lenken. Milliarden, die wir dringend für den Aufbau eines erneuerbaren Energiesystems brauchen.

Doch noch kann das EU-Parlament sein Veto einlegen! Dabei kommt es insbesondere auf die Stimmen der konservativen EVP-Fraktion (in Deutschland: CDU/CSU) und der Liberalen (FDP und Freie Wähler) an. Machen Sie mit und schreiben Sie jetzt den Europaabgeordneten dieser Fraktionen aus Ihrem Bundesland, damit Erdgas und Atomkraft keinen grünen Anstrich bekommen.

Die Kommission hat das „Ökolabel“ für Gas und Atomkraft als „delegierten Rechtsakt“ auf den Weg gebracht. In diesem Verfahren können sowohl der Ministerrat als auch das EU-Parlament ein Veto einlegen. Während vom Rat in dieser Sache nichts zu erwarten ist, läuft der Prozess für ein Veto im Parlament auf Hochtouren: Ein fraktionsübergreifendes Bündnis hat im Mai eine Resolution zur Ablehnung des Vorschlages entworfen. Mitte Juni werden sich die Ausschüsse für Wirtschaft und Umwelt dazu beraten. Jetzt ist die Zeit, die nötige Mehrheit von mindestens der Hälfte der Abgeordneten zu organisieren, sich hinter einer entsprechenden Resolution zu versammeln. Dies wird nicht einfach, aber es bestehen durchaus Chancen auf einen Erfolg!

Denn die Fraktionen der Sozialdemokraten, Grünen und Linken haben bereits öffentlich gemacht, dass sie den Kommissionsvorschlag voraussichtlich ablehnen werden. Und auch aus den Reihen der Konservativen EVP-Fraktion gab es bereits massive Kritik. Dabei geht es nicht nur um die Inhalte: Viele Abgeordnete sind unzufrieden mit der Vorgehensweise der EU-Kommission, weil sie das Parlament zu wenig einbezogen hat. Deshalb haben wir eine echte Chance, sie zu überzeugen, gegen die Pläne der Kommission zu stimmen.

With a new set of rules, the European Union wants to set standards for sustainable management. But if the EU Commission has its way, natural gas and nuclear power should also be classified as sustainable forms of energy production in the so-called “taxonomy”! That would be a greenwashing meltdown, because this fraudulent labeling would steer bad investments worth billions into outdated technologies. Billions that we urgently need to build a renewable energy system.

But the EU Parliament can still veto it! The votes of the conservative EPP group (in Germany: CDU/CSU) and the liberals (FDP and Free Voters) are particularly important. Join in and write to the MEPs of these groups from your state now, so that natural gas and nuclear power don’t get a green coat of paint.

The Commission has launched the „eco-label“ for gas and nuclear power as a „delegated act“. Both the Council of Ministers and the EU Parliament can veto this procedure. While nothing can be expected from the Council on this matter, the process for a veto in Parliament is in full swing: a cross-party coalition drafted a resolution rejecting the proposal in May. The committees for business and the environment will discuss this in mid-June. Now is the time to organize the necessary majority of at least half of the deputies to gather behind an appropriate resolution. This won’t be easy, but there is a good chance of success!

Because the factions of the Social Democrats, Greens and Left have already made public that they will probably reject the Commission’s proposal. And there has already been massive criticism from the ranks of the Conservative EPP Group. It’s not just about the content: many MEPs are dissatisfied with the way the EU Commission is proceeding, because they haven’t included Parliament enough. So we have a real chance of convincing them to vote against the Commission’s plans.

Es ist ein Skandal, wie die EU-Kommission immer wieder versucht, Beschlüsse ohne Konsultation des Parlamentes zu treffen. Bei den Ackergiften läuft das genauso. Wozu haben wir schliesslich das Parlament und bezahlen den Politikern teure Gagen. Jedenfalls nicht dafür, dass die EU-Kommission den Ländern diktiert!

… It is a scandal, how the EU-Commission time and again is trying to make decisions without consultation of the parliament. It is the same with the agro-poisons. What do we actually have the parliament for and are paying the politicians high salaries. In any case not for giving the EU-Commission the right to dictate to the countries!
