Wenn ihr euch an unseren ersten Ausflug erinnert, so schienen mir dort einige der Steine vulkanischen Ursprungs zu sein. Ich schaute mal ins Internet und fand folgende Information bei madeira-a-z.com:
„Madeira ist vulkanischen Ursprungs und zählt mit den Kanaren, den Kapverden und den Azoren zur Gruppe der makaronesischen Inseln. Der Madeira-Archipel ist durch einen Hot Spot (Vulkan am Meeresboden) entstanden. Die Insel ist nur das oberste Viertel des gesamten Vulkansystems.“
… If you recollect our first excursion, some of the rocks there seemed to be of vulcanic origin. I searched on the Internet and found following information on madeira-a-z.com:
Madeira is of vulcanic origin and belongs to Macaronesia, together with the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and the Azores. “ The Archipelago of Madeira was created through a „Hot Spot“. The island is only the top quarter of the entire volcanic system.“
Dieses Mal befuhren wir einige der grösseren Strassen und landeten in Porto Moniz, einem malerischen, kleinen Ort mit Naturbassins. (Auf der Karte im Nordwesten, an der Küste.)
… This time we took some of the larger roads and ended up in Porto Moniz, a picturesque, little place with natural pools. (On the map in the northwest, at the coast.)
Diese Strasse fuhren wir hinab, ich habe nach hinten fotografiert.
… We came down this road, I took the photo looking back.
… The road is leading down in about the middle of the photo.
Sehr viel grösser kann der Ort nicht werden, weil er von steilen Felsen umgeben ist.
… The town cannot get much bigger, as it is surrounded by steep rocks.
… There are viewpont terraces and on top you will find restaurants and shops.
Die vorgelagerte Insel heisst Ilhèu Mole. Auf ihr befindet sich ein Leuchtturm, der „Farol do Porto Moniz“.
… The island off the coast is called Ilhèu Mole. A lighthouse, the „Farol do Porto Moniz“ has been built there.
Und jetzt kommen wir endlich zu den Bassins. Einige sind pur Natur, bei anderen hat man mit etwas Beton und Steinen nachgeholfen, um sie sicherer zu machen.
… And now we get finally to the pools. Some are completely natural, others have been fortified with concrete and stones to make them safer.
Da waren tatsächlich zwei kleine Jungs am Baden!

Hier hat die Lava eine natürliche Brücke geformt.
… The lava has formed a natural bridge here.
… Here you can see, what else there is to do. We have not seen the aquarium. I am not so much for aquariums or zoos, with the exception of the zoo on Fuerteventure, where they help many hurt and mistreated animals.
Es folgen einige Eindrücke von Funchal. Ich muss dazu sagen, dass wir nicht viele Fotos von der Stadt gemacht haben, weil zu der Zeit ein grosser Teil der Innenstadt und die Hafenmole eine einzige Baustelle war. 2015 war dann alles fertig.
… Some impressions of Funchal follow below. I should like to mention that we did not take many photos of the city, as at that time, a large part of the centre and the waterfront where one big building site. By 2015, everything was done.
Funchal hat übrigens auch eine Burg, die über der Stadt auf einem Hügel tront. Malerische kleine Strassen führen dort hinauf … allerdings nicht breit genug für Autos, wovor nicht gewarnt wird. Ich hatte meine Bedenken, aber der Gentleman klappte die Spiegel von dem Leihwagen nach innen und traute sich weiter. Bis wir dann wirklich nicht weiterkamen und ein Mann uns gestikulierend zum Umkehren bewegte. Man müsste dort einmal zu Fuss hochgehen. Übrigens habe ich in Funchal die steilsten Strassen innerhalb einer Stadt angetroffen. Jetzt nicht lachen, aber ich bin bei einem Spaziergang durch die Stadt aus meinen Sandalen gerutscht, so steil war es (die hatten nur vorne einen Riemen). Stellt euch vor, ihr solltet auf so einer Strasse mit dem Auto anhalten und schauen, ob da was von rechts kommt … und dann wieder anfahren. Ein Albtraum!
… By the way, Funchal also has a castle, enthroned on a hill above the city. Picturesque little streets lead up there … but not wide enough for cars, which one is not warned about. I had my concerns, but the gentleman folded the mirrors of the rental car inwards and dared to go on. Until we really got stuck and a man, gesticulating, made us turn back. One should go up there on foot one day. By the way, in Funchal I came across the steepest streets within a city. Don’t laugh now, but I slipped out off my sandals while walking through the city, it was so steep (they only had a strap in the front … the sandals). Imagine you should stop your car on a street like that and look if somebody is coming from the right … and then start again. A nightmare!

Ich hänge die Berichte von unserer Reise in 2015 einfach dran. Da haben wir auch noch so einiges Schönes gesehen.
… I will let the reports of our travel in 2015 follow these ones. That year we have also seen some beautiful sights.
