Fürst Renato verdient einen eigenen Beitrag, finde ich. Sein kleines Fürstentum Pontinha oder Ilheu da Pontinha liegt in Funchals Hafen, am Anfang des Kais, an dem die Kreuzfahrtschiffe anlegen. Den Text zwischen den Bildern habe ich teilweise der Wikipedia entnommen. Diese Textstellen werde ich mit Ausrufungszeichen markieren.
… Prince Renato deserves a separate post, I think. His little principality Pontinha or Ilheu da Pontinha, is situated at the beginning of the cruise ship pier of Funchal’s port. The text between the photos is partly taken from the Wikipedia. I will mark those parts with quotation marks.

Fürst Renato hat meinem Mann angeboten, Botschafter des Fürstentums in Dänemark zu werden. Das sollte eine ziemliche Summe Geld kosten (ich glaube 2500 EUR oder so, wenn ich mich richtig daran erinnere), und dafür bekam man dann den Titel und eine schicke Urkunde. Angeblich hatte man dann denselben Status wie Botschafter anderer Länder, was recht unwahrscheinlich ist, denn Pontinha war zu der Zeit nicht von sehr vielen Ländern anerkannt.
… Prince Renato offered my husband to become Ambassador fot the Principality in Denmark. That had a price, of course (I think about 2500 EUR or so, if I remember correctly), and in exchange one got the title and a fancy certificate. His Ambassadors had allegedly the same status as those from other countries, which is rather unlikely, as Pontinha was not recognized by many countries at that time.

Woher die Informationen auf dem Schild stammen, weiss ich nicht. Versucht nicht, auf die darauf angegebene Webseite zu kommen, die ist nicht sicher! Die offizielle Webseite ist ilheu-da-pontinha-principado.org – dort findet ihr einen interessanten Text über die Geschichte der Insel und die Nationalhymne Pontinhas. Vielleicht ist das alles doch kein Schwindel … Ferner findet ihr dort Bilder bzw. Videos von seiner Krönung, seine Pläne mit der Insel und über den Coup des portugiesischen Staates gegenüber Pontinha. Auf der Webseite wird er meistens Renato I genannt, wohingegen er ansonsten Renato II ist. Aber wir wollen nicht so genau sein oder?
… From where the information on the signboard is taken, I do not know. Don’t try to enter the web address mentioned there in your browser, it is not safe! The official website is ilheu-da-pontinha-principado.org – you find there an interesting text about the history of the island and the national anthm of Pontinha. Maybe it is not all a con trick anyway … Furthermore you will find there photos resp. videos of his coronation, his plans for the island and about the coup of Portugal against Pontinha. On the website he is mainly called Renato I, whereas otherwise he is Renato II, but we don’t want to be nit-picking, do we?
Hier der Principe selbst. Er winkt nicht huldvoll, er wedelt unter anderem mit seinem Handy, wonach er verzweifelt auf dem ganzen Felsen und mehrmals in seinem Auto gesucht hatte. Schaut, ich hab’s gefunden!

Und 2013 eine Anzahl ungemein entspannter Katzen, die nichts aus der Siesta bringen konnte.

„Am 25. September 2017 musste Renato Barros das drei Tage zuvor im Rahmen eines Insolvenzverfahrens an Emigranten verkaufte Fort von São José, bis dahin Sitz der Mikronation, verlassen.“
Damit ist die Geschichte aber nicht vorbei. Es zeigt sich, dass Renato II immer noch mit dem Staat Portugal streitet und auch immer noch Titel vergibt.

But the story does not seem to be over at all. It seems like Renato II still is fighting with the Portuguese State, and he is still handing out titles.

Es war äusserst interessant, Fürst Renato II kennenzulernen. Ich wünsche ihm viel Erfolg bei seinem Kampf um seine Rechte. Ich verstehe eigentlich nicht so richtig, warum Portugal so gegen Pontinha ist. Das ist doch eine Touristenattraktion ohne gleichen. Ein wenig wie der Freistaat Christiania für Kopenhagen.
… It was very interesting to meet Prince Renato II. I wish him success with his fight for his rights. I don’t really understand, why Portugal is so much against Pontinha. It seems to me like an exceptional tourist attraction. A bit like the Free State of Christiania for Copenhagen.
