Weil die Amseln sich so tyrannisch aufführen haben sich neue Fressmuster herauskristallisiert. Die Blaumeisen kommen meist, wenn keine anderen Vögel da sind, obwohl sie sich sowieso meisten nur ein Stück Erdnuss greifen und damit irgendwo in die Büsche abschwirren. Die Meisenkugeln, die vor dem Küchenfenster hingen, habe ich weiter vom Haus weg in das Rosenstativ gehängt, denn Madam Amsel jagte die Meisen weg, obwohl sie selber gar nicht dort fressen konnte. Wir haben Blaumeisen, Kohlmeisen und Sumpfmeisen. Letztere sind gar nicht mehr so scheu und beginnen schon zu fressen, wenn ich noch auf der Terrasse herumwerkele.

Die Amseln haben auch einen Weg gefunden, doch auf der schmalen Fensterbank zu landen, nämlich von der Seite; frontal klappt nicht, dann knallen sie mit dem Kopf ans Fenster. Man muss die ständig austricksen, damit die Kleinen eine Chance haben. Allerdings protestieren die Spatzen, wenn eine Amsel auf der Fensterbank sitzt. Anscheinend sehen sie das als ihr Territorium an. Wenn sich viele Spatzen zusammenrotten und schimpfen, gibt eine einzelne Amsel schon mal nach.

Es besuchen uns 2-3 Paar Buchfinken, meistens zusammen. Grünfinken habe ich dieses Jahr nicht gesehen. Die sind vielleicht dieses Jahr in den Süden gezogen?

Ich hoffe, dass die Büsche in diesem Jahr schön gross werden, dann kann ich im nächsten Winter kleinere Futterstellen hineinhängen, die die Amseln nicht benutzen können. Die bekommen dann einen Futterplatz am Boden. Für die Tauben streue ich Sonnenblumenkerne ins Gras. Da können dann auch die anderen grossen Vögel fressen, die sowieso nicht gerne dicht ans Haus kommen, wie die Dohlen und die Elstern.
… I hope that the butterfly bushes grow up big this year, because then I can hang up small feeding places next winter, which the blackbirds cannot use. They will get a feeding place on the ground. For the pigeons I put out sunflower seeds on the grass. There also the other larger birds can feed, that do not like to come so close to the house, like the jackdaws and the magpies.
Trotzdem die Amseln solche Bullies sind, bin ich froh, dass es jetzt auf jeden Fall vier Weibchen sind. Das war schon traurig letztes Jahr mit nur einem. Bei den Spatzen sind es weiterhin nur sehr wenige Weibchen.

My God! You have snow… Silly me!
The one on the left at the beginning is a Robin (rouge-gorge). Male because of the bright red colours on his chest. The one on the right looks like a sparrow, but different. maybe a german species, probably a male too. Females have dull feathers. The last one, the blue one? We call it Mésange in French. Don’t know the English name. Again probably a male. In many bird species, the female has dull feathers for camouflage and protection of the species. The male has bright colours to seduce the female. (Or a good voice to sing her into passion)

We did not have that snow for long … the robin is the hero in this video, as I hadn’t seen it all year and thought it was dead, so that’s the good news. 🙂
The sparrow is a field sparrow, it has a bit more colouring than the house sparrows, which we don’t have here. The last one in that same video is a Kohlmeise, great tit or mésange charbonnière. The blue one is indeed a m´sange or Blaumeise, bluetit.
And you are generally right about the male being more colourful (braggy 😉 😀 ), but in the case of the mésanges, both genders really look rather alike.

It is encouraging to see that you and so many other people care so much for our feathery friends during these harsh winter months, Birgit. We have been feeding our birds here in Canada for many years now. It seems they remember where the feeders are because more and more birds gather to find the sunflower seeds we have in store for them. Many varieties are attracted, such as chickadees, nuthatches, sparrows, jays, and even woodpeckers. Greetings from still snowless Fauquier!

You have a lot more species in your fantastic surroundings, of course! But I do see one or the other rarer bird (the ones with feathers, that is). When we lived right beside a narional reserve, we got a lot more different birds. Here I am glad, when the robin survives and that we have a wren. Many people feed them even all year long here. If I want to do that, I will have to find a place away from the terraces, as the doves are shitting a lot and big … 😉
It is amazing that you still don’t have snow. Our’s is gone as well, too warm.

Robins depend on worms for their diet, so that is one bird that disappears over the winter.

Total schön, euer Vogel-Stelldichein!
Ist es nicht herrlich, die kleinen gefiederten Besucher zu beobachten? Ich meine sogar, erkennen zu können, dass die verschiedenen Arten ihre ganz eigene, kleine Persönlichkeit haben. So wie du es auch beschreibst, habe ich ebenfalls festgestellt, dass Meisen, insbesondere die Blaumeisen, sehr schüchtern sind, während Rotkehlchen hingegen überaus zutraulich sind.
Auf der Fensterbank habe ich stets ein kleines Nachschlagewerk liegen, mit dem ich schnell mir bisher unbekannte Besucher definieren kann.

Unser Rotkehlchen ist leider nicht so zutraulich, wie ich es gerne hätte, aber das ist sicher besser für den Vogel. Die Sumpfmeisen sind seltsamerweise nicht so ängstlich.

Wir haben ein Rotkehlchen, das unfassbar zutraulich ist. Es hüpft sogar auf den Schuh und schaut nach oben in das Gesicht des Menschen. Und es landet auf einem Teller, den man in der Hand hält und auf dem natürlich leckere Körner zu finden sind. 😊 ❄️❄️⛄

Bei mir tut sich nicht viel. Leider hatten wir wieder ein Vogelsterben. Schnee haben wir fast gar keinen. Demzufolge suchen sich die noch lebenden Vögel ihr Futter auf der Wiese.

Es soll, laut Nabu, wieder eine Epidemie im Umlauf sein. Ein Taubenpaar treibt sich herum und wird dadurch immer satt.

Amseln sind mit ihrem territorialen Verhalten aber auch ganz witzig zu beobachten. Selbst wenn man als menschlicher Fußgänger an einer Amsel vorbeikommt, wird mit Brust raus und schiefem Blick wild Laub um sich geworfen. Es scheint mir auch, dass sie sich ganz den Gartenzäunen anpassen. Jeder Garten hat hier sein Amselmännchen 😉. Es kommt auch immer wenn ich im Garten grabe und pickt nach Insekten und Würmern. Einmal hat es auch an meinem Schnürsenkel gezupft. Ohne Amsel wäre es schon langweilig 😉.
