Besuch: Der ist wieder auf dem Weg nach Lolland. Die geliebten Routinen (Yoga, Meditation, Bewegung) können wieder aufgenommen werden. Es ist irgendwie seltsam zu sehen, wenn Leute, die jünger sind als man selber, sich schlechter bewegen können. Aber wir waren immerhin im Wikingerdorf Yxengaard und in Lønstrup.

… Visitors: They are on their way back to Lolland. The beloved routines (Yoga, meditation, exercise) can be taken up again. It is a bit strange, when people who are younger than oneself, are in worse physical condition. But we made it to the viking village Yxengaard and to Lønstrup.

Garten: Meine Kletterrosen haben remontiert, sind aber etwas mickerig im Vergleich zu sonst. Ich werde nicht umhin kommen, sie aus den Containern direkt in die Erde zu pflanzen. Alle Rosen hatten entweder Rosenrost oder Sternrusstau und haben nach der ersten Blüte alle Blätter abgeworfen, die ich dann immer gleich aufgesammelt und entsorgt habe. Ich werde sie daher ganz runterschneiden und ohne Wurzeln und die alte Erde einpflanzen, so als ob ich sie ganz neu gekauft hätte.

… Garden: My climbing roses have remontant-ed, but are a bit pitiful in comparison to their usual growth. I am afraid that I cannot avoid planting them out (they are in large containers right now). All roses suffered either from rose rust or black spot, and have lost all their leaves after the first blossom, which I then always collected and threw out. I will, therefore, cut them down and replant them without the fine roots and the old soil, the way that I have bought them.

Die einzige Rose, die bisher gar keine Pilzkrankheit gezeigt hat, ist der Steckling von „New Dawn“.

… The only rose that has not shown any fungal disease yet is the cutting of „New Dawn“.

Die Mutterpflanze hat zu kämpfen, denn direkt hinter ihr steht eine gigantische Herbstaster. Ich wusste gar nicht, dass die so hoch werden können (170 cm). Aber sie hat natürlich den Rosendünger mitbekommen. Ich werde die Aster nach der Blüte woanders hinpflanzen, dann kommt die Rose sich auch wieder.

… The mother plant is fighting a hard battle against the gigantic asters that grows directly behind it. I had no idea that asters could get that high (170 cm/68 inches). But it enjoyed its part of the rose fertilizer, of course. I will plant it somewhere else after flowering, so that the rose gets a chance.

Die Astern fangen jetzt überall an zu blühen. Letztes Jahr hatte ich einige abgebrochene Äste, die ich einfach in die Erde gesteckt habe, und dieses Jahr sind es schon kleine Büsche. Natur ist doch fantastisch!

… The asters are starting to flower everywhere. Last year I had some broken off branches that I just stuck into the soil where there was space, and this year they have already grown into small bushes. Nature is just fantastic!

Und unsere späten Himbeeren versorgen uns mit den wunderbarsten Früchten.

… And our late raspberry plants supply us with the most wonderful berries.

Musik: Viel ist in den letzten Wochen nicht passiert; wir haben natürlich geübt und haben jetzt alle 8 Lieder von Neighbours and Friends (die wir gekauft haben) in unserem Repertoire. Die Musikstücke sind teilweise recht anspruchsvoll und mit Keyboard Soli verbunden. Unsere Sängerin, die auch anderweitig künstlerisch begabt ist, wird ein Poster für die Band kreieren. Obwohl, ich habe nicht die geringste Ahnung, ob wir jemals vor einem Publikum spielen werden. Mir persönlich ist das allerdings auch gar nicht so wichtig.

… Music: Not much new has happened during the last few weeks; we rehearsed, of course, and have now all 8 songs (which we bought) by Neigbours and Friends in our repertoire. Some of them are rather challenging and have keyboard soli incorporated. Our singer, who is also otherwise artistically gifted, will design a poster for our band. Although I have no idea, if we will ever get to play for an audience. For me that is actually not that important.

Waldbrände in Oregon: Viele Wochen lang brennt die amerikanische Westküste in Californien und Oregon. Die Stadt, in der mein „kleiner“ Bruder und seine Familie in Oregon wohnen, sind von Feuern umgeben. Es hat dort vier Monate nicht geregnet und alles brennt wie Zunder. Starke Winde haben dann noch für Funkenflug gesorgt. Der Wind hat sich vor ein paar Tagen gelegt und die Alarmbereitschaft „jetzt müsst ihr packen“ ist abgeblasen worden … bis auf weiteres. Wir sind jedenfalls erst einmal erleichtert.
In der dänischen Presse wurde berichtet, dass die Leute nur wenige Minuten bekommen, um zusammenzupacken und zu verschwinden (typisch Sensationspresse). Das stimmt nicht ganz. Es gibt ein Warnsystem mit verschiedenen Stadien: 1) Bereite dich vor, 2) Pack deine Sachen, 3) Nichts wie weg. Wenn ich Kinder hätte, ginge ich wahrscheinlich schon bei 2). Es gibt immer Leute, die ihr Haus nicht verlassen wollen und zulange warten; für die wird es dann manchmal knapp. Mir wäre Leben auf jeden Fall wichtiger als materielle Dinge.

… Wild fires in Oregon: For many weeks the American west coast has been aflame in California and Oregon. The town in Oregon, where my younger brother and his family live, is surrounded by fires. It hasn’t rained there for four month in a row, and things burn like tinder. Strong winds have blown sparks all over the place. A few days ago, the wind has died down and the alarm „pack your things“ has been canceled … until further notice. In any case, that comes as a relief.
The Danish press (typically sensationalist) reported that people only get a few minutes to pack and flee. That is not quite correct. There is an alarm system in place with three stages: 1) get ready to get ready, 2) get ready and pack up, 3) GO. If I had children, I guess I would leave already at 2). There are always people, who do not want to leave their houses and wait too long; for them it might get a bit tight. I would choose life anytime over material things.

Wie ihr seht, werden wir immer in irgendeiner Form in Trab gehalten. In Oregon ist Covid-19 jedenfalls erst einmal völlig nebensächlich, wenn ganze Dörfer abbrennen und die Menschen ihre Bleibe und all ihr Habengut verlieren.

Lasst uns alle den Moment nutzen, positiv im Hier und Jetzt leben, denn wir wissen nie, wann es vorbei ist. Der Tod ist nicht das Ende, sondern nur eine Transformation in einen anderen Zustand. Der Herr ist mein Hirte, mir wird nichts mangeln …
