Ich wollte alle die Pflanzenteile einsammeln, die ich abgeschnitten hatte, bog um die Ecke des Schuppens und sah eine braune Kugel, die an der so genannten Hecke rumpusselte. Ein Igel, endlich, denn bisher hatten wir nur seine „Hinterlassenschaften“ gefunden. Ich bin dann gleich wieder ins Haus gewetzt, um das Handy meines Mannes zu holen für Foto und/oder Video. Der Igel war noch da, als ich zurückkam, und ich begann zu filmen. Sobald er mich sah und hörte, wurde er bewegungslos, bereit sich im Notfall einzurollen.
… I wanted to collect all the plant parts that I had cut off, came around the corner of the barn, and saw a brown ball bustling around the so called hedge. A hedgehog, finally! Until now we had only seen its „gifts“ that it regularly leaves for us. I rushed back into the house to get my husbands mobile phone for photo and/or video. The hedgehog was still there when I got back, and I started filming. As soon as it saw and heard me, it stopped all movement, ready to roll up in case of need.
Ich wollte aber meine Arbeiten durchführen. So lange wie ich rumwurstelte, war der Igel bewegungslos. Als ich aber fertig war und hinter der Garage verschwand, kam wieder Leben in ihn. Wie weiss ich das? Na, ich lugte vorsichtig um die Ecke … 😉 Der Igel schlüpfte durch die Hecke und auf das Gras. Ich wieder ins Haus, „Kamera“ holen. Um ihn nicht zu verpassen, ging ich an der Südseite aus dem Haus, auf Socken, weil es pressierte. Der Igel war nicht zu sehen … aber, ihr werdet es nicht glauben, ich hörte ihn schmatzen! Auf Grund seines Schmatzens fand ich ihn wieder, und er hörte mich nicht (Socken!) und ging ganz ungeniert im Beet herum, bis er mich dann am Ende doch bemerkte und wieder in Starre verfiel. Ich habe ihn dann in Frieden gelassen. Ich bin ja froh, wenn er ein paar Schnecken frisst. Wir haben wirklich viele dieses Jahr.
… But I wanted to finish my job. While I was working, the hedgehog stayed motionless. But, as soon as I had finished and disappeared behind the barn, it got alive again. How do I know that? I carefully spied around the corner … 😉 The hedgehog slid through the hedge and onto the grass. I rushed back into the house for the „camera“. I didn’t want to miss it, so I went out on the south side, on socks, as this was urgent business. The hedgehog was nowhere to be seen … but, you won’t believe it, I heard it chewing something making smacking sounds! Because of this sound I found it again, and it didn’t hear me (socks!), and scurried completely free and easy around in the flower bed, until it finally noticed me and got motionless again. I left it in peace then. I am glad, that it eats some of the snails. We have really many this year.
Solche kleinen Begegnungen machen mich immer etwas froh.
… Such small encounters always make me glad.
