Man sieht sie nur noch selten und nie paarweise. Man konnte seine Briefe hineintun, in den Schlitz oben, und dann kam ein Postbote mit einem grossen Weihnachtsmannsack und leerte den Kasten. Auf wunderbare Weise gelangten die Briefe dann an ihren Bestimmungsort … oder auch mal nicht.
… One rarely observes them anymore, and never in pairs. One could place one’s letters inside, into the slit at the top, and then a postman came with a big Father Christmas sack and emptied the box. Miraculously the letters then reached their destination … or at times not.
