Wir handeln, wenn die Politik schläft! … We act, while politics sleep!
Vor vier Monaten hat das Umweltinstitut München das Handbuch „Klimawende von unten“ veröffentlicht. Es soll lokalen Gruppen dabei helfen, durch direkte Demokratie in ihren Städten Kohlekraftwerke abzuschalten oder Vorfahrt für Fahrräder zu erkämpfen.
… Four months ago, the Environment Institute Munich has published the booklet „Climate change from the base“. It is meant to assist local groups with stopping coal-burning power plants from working or fight for right of way for bicycles.
Die Resonanz auf das Projekt ist enorm: In ganz Deutschland gründen sich neue Bürgerinitiativen und Bündnisse, die den Klimaschutz selbst in die Hand nehmen wollen! Seitdem bin ich (Franziska Buch, Referentin für Energie & Klima) ständig unterwegs: Als Beraterin halte ich Vorträge bei Treffen der Klimabewegung, erkläre lokalen Gruppen, wie sie sich die direkte Demokratie zunutze machen können und unterstütze sie bei der Bündnisgründung. Wenn ich nicht durch die Republik reise, berate ich telefonisch, recherchiere und vermittele Kontakte.
… The Reaction to the project is tremendous: All over Germany new citizen initiatives and alliances are being established, which want to take climate protection into their own hands! Since then, I (Franziska Buch, consultant for Energy and Climate) am traveling constantly: As consultant I am holding speeches at meetings of the climate movement, explain to local groups, how they can make use of direct democracy and support them with establishing alliances. When I am not traveling through the republic, I am consulting via telephone, do research and connect people with each other.

Österreich verbietet Glyphosat! … Austria is banning glyphosate!
Der österreichische Nationalrat stimmte gestern mehrheitlich dem SPÖ-Antrag für ein Verbot von Glyphosat zu. Damit ist Österreich das erste EU-Land, das den Einsatz des Ackergifts komplett verbietet. Auch das Umweltinstitut setzt sich seit vielen Jahren für Glyphosat-Verbot ein. Wir gratulieren Österreich zu diesem wichtigen Schritt!
… The Austrian National Council gave a majority vote for the motion of the SPÖ (Social Democratic Party of Austria) to ban glyphosate. Therewith Austria is the first EU-country that completely forbids the use of that poison. The Environment Institute is promoting the ban of glyphosate for many years. We congratulate Austria to this important step!
Deutschland kann sich jetzt nicht mehr hinter der EU verstecken und muss endlich handeln! … Now Germany cannot hide behind the EU anymore and finally has to act!
