Egholm ist eine kleine Insel, die im Limfjord genau vor Aalborg liegt, also so ein bisschen nach links, d. h. nach Westen verschoben. Wenn ihr meinen Beitrag über den Aussichtsturm in Aalborg gelesen habt, konntet ihr sie im Hintergrund sehen.
… Egholm is a small island, situated in the Limfjord facing Aalborg, maybe a little bit to the left, meaning to the west. If you have read my post about the Aalborg tower, you could see it in the background on one of the photos.
Die Insel hat im Moment um die 50 Einwohner und beherbergt 11 Bauernhöfe. Der Verkehr mit der Autofähre wurde erst 1972 eingerichtet. Bis dahin gab es nur ein Postboot, dass an der so genannten ”Staatsbrücke” anlegte. Aber selbst das Postboot wurde erst 1918 eingeführt. Bis zu dem Zeitpunkt mussten die Einwohner daher alle irgendein Boot besitzen, wenn sie aufs Festland wollten. Ich weiss nicht, ob Schwimmen eine Möglichkeit war. Die Strecke ist zwar nicht weit, aber gerade hier ist die Stömung im Limfjord ziemlich stark. Das bekommt auch die Fähre zu fühlen, aber davon später.
… At the moment the island has about 50 inhabitants and 11 homesteads. The traffic with the car ferry only started in 1972. Until then there was only a mail boat, which pulled up at the “state bridge”. But even the mail boat traffic only started in 1918. Up to that, the inhabitants needed to own a boat to get to the mainland. I am not sure if swimming was a possibility. The distance is short, but here the current of the Limfjord is rather strong. Even the ferry can feel it, but I will talk about that later.
Interessant ist auch die “Folkefarm” (der Volkshof). Das ist ein Landbetrieb, der rein ökologisch funktioniert und jeder kann Miteigentümer werden und auch selber anbauen. Man hofft, dass sich Egholm zu einer Art ökologischen Speisekammer Aalborgs entwickelt. Die Felder sind über die ganze Insel verteilt.
… Also interesting is the ”Folkefarm” (the people’s farm). That is a homestead, which is functioning on purely ecological basis, and everybody can become a co-owner and also grow something. The city of Aalborg hopes that Egholm will evolve to a kind of ecological pantry for the city. The fields are spread all over the island.
Die Überfahrt mit der Fähre dauert ca. drei Minuten. Mein Mann kam sofort mit dem Fahrkartenkontrolleur ins Gespräch, ein junger Mann, auch so ein typischer Nordjütländer, unnahbar und schweigsam … 😉 😀 … er war früher Fischer, aber das wird immer schwerer, davon zu leben, wie er erzählte.
… The crossing with the ferry takes about three minutes. My husband fell into a chat with the ticket controller right away, a young man, one of those typical northern Jutlanders, remote and taciturn … 😉 🙂 … he used to be a fisherman, but it is getting more and more difficult to live from that, so he told us.
Rentner fahren gratis mit dieser Fähre, aber ich kostete 20 Kronen (ca. 2,75 EUR, Rückfahrkarte). Da fragte der junge Mann den meinen doch glatt, ob er mich denn wirklich mit rübernehmen wollte, selbst wenn ich bezahlen müsste. Seeeeehr witzig … aber typisch dänischer Humor. Er ähnelt dem englischen sehr.
… Retirees don’t have to pay for the crossing, but I had to pay 20 crowns (about 3.35 USD/2.35 GBP return ticket). So he asked my husband, if he really wanted to take me over, even if I had to pay. Veeeeery funny … but typical Danish humour. It is very like the English.
Die Fähre legte also ab, aber anstatt schräg nach links den gegenüberliegenden Anlieger anzupeilen, machte sie eine scharfe Rechtsdrehung, so dass wir uns schnell irgendwo festhalten mussten. Einmal im Kreis ging es, in nicht unschnellem Tempo. Der Fahrkartenkontrolleur sprang die Treppe zum Kontrollraum hinauf, wir dachten natürlich alle, dass dem Kapitän was passiert war. Er kam aber gleich wieder nach unten, und die Fähre war inzwischen auf rechtem Kurs. Er berichtete, dass am Ufer einige Seefahrtskameraden des Kapitäns stünden, vor denen er ein bisschen angeben wollte … sowas ist wohl nur in Dänemark möglich … 😉
… The ferry casted off, but instead of heading to the left towards the opposite landing place, it made a sharp turn to the right, so that we had to grip hold somewhere. The ferry went whole circle in no slow motion. The ticket controller sprang up the stairs to the control room; of course, we all thought that something had happened to the captain. But he came down right away, and in the meantime the ferry was on correct course. He reported that some buddies of the captain stood at the Aalborg bank, and he wanted to show off to them … I guess this can only happen in Denmark … 😉
Nach der kurzen Überfahrt schauten wir erst einmal auf den Plan, denn wir wollten die ”lange” Strecke gehen, so an die 5 Kilometer, das konnten wir doch mit links machen, so fit wie wir waren … 😉
… After the short crossing, we studied the map, because we wanted to take the “long” walk, about 3 miles, we could easily do that, fit as we were … 😉
Bis zu einem bestimmten Punkt ging es auf einem Sandweg entlang, vorbei an Norwegerpferden, fantastischen Wiesen mit Myriaden von Kornblumen (ja, das blaue sind alles Kornblumen), und am Anlegesteg des ehemaligen Postbootes vorbei. Von dem ist leider nicht mehr viel übrig. Wir trauten uns nicht hinüberzuwaten, denn gerade dort wurde vor Treibsand gewarnt.
… up to a point one walks on a sand road, passing Norwegian horses, fantastic meadows with myriads of cornflowers (yes, the blue flowers are all cornflowers), and the jetty of the former mail boat. There is not much left of it. We didn’t dare to wade over, because there were warnings of quicksand right there.
Bis vor kurzem gab es sogar einen Kaufmann auf der Insel. Jetzt gibt es noch jemanden, der interieur design Sachen verkauft, den haben wir aber gar nicht gesehen, und an einem Häuschen wurde der Verkauf von ökologischem Honig angepriesen. Theoretisch ist das immer etwas für uns, aber wir wollten nicht die schweren Gläser mitschleppen (ausgebuddelte Pflanzen ist etwas gaaaanz anderes).
… Until not long ago they had a shop on the island. Now there is somebody who sells interior design articles, but we didn’t see that, and at one little house they advertised the sale of ecological honey. That is usual of interest to us, but we didn’t want to carry the heavy glasses (dug up plants is something toootally different).
Nach Egholm-Dorf wird es wilder und unwegsamer. Mit dem Fahrrad würde ich hier nicht fahren wollen.
… After Egholm, the village, it gets wilder and harder to walk. I wouldn’t want to go by bicycle here.
Nach einer Weile kamen wir an die westlichste Spitze. Hier sollten sich nach der Broschüre die Seehunde und Seeadler zuhauf tummeln. Adler haben wir keine gesehen, aber einen Kormoran, Möwen und einige Enten. Die Seehunde waren alle gerade am Tauchen als ich fotografierte … 😉 (das erinnerte mich ans Vildmose, wo man ja angeblich hinter jeder Biegung in einen Elch läuft).
… After some time we came to the most western corner. The brochure tells you that at this place seals and sea-eagles galore are frolicking. We did not see any eagles, but a cormorant, seagulls and some ducks. The seals all dived just when I took the photo … 😉 (that reminded me of Vildmose, where one allegedly runs into a moose behind every corner).
Aber es war wunderschön an der Küste entlang zu gehen. Was sich hier tatsächlich tummelte, waren Schmetterlinge, Wildblumen und die herrlichsten Wildgräser. Auf dem einen Foto kann man, glaube ich, sehen, wie viele verschiedene Grassorten da wuchsen.
… But it was wonderful to walk along the coast. What was really frolicking here, were butterflies, wild flowers and the most exquisite grasses. On one of the photo, I think, one can see how many different kinds of grass there were.
Dieses Bild ist nicht ganz scharf, ich habe es wegen der ungewöhnlichen Raupen gemacht, schwarz-gelb gestreift. Ich habe nachgeforscht, es handelt sich um Raupen des Jakobskrautbären (dann weiss man auch gleich, wie die Pflanze heisst, auf der sie sassen). Den Schmetterling habe ich nie in freier Natur gesehen, aber vielleicht weil das ein Nachtfalter ist … 😉
… This photo is not really sharp, I took it because of the unusual caterpillars, black and yellow striped. I have researched this and it is the caterpillar of the Tyria jacobaeae. I have never seen the butterfly out in nature, but that may be because it is a night active … 😉

Auch hatten die Rugosa-Rosen kleine Ableger gebildet … ich werde also noch einmal mit Schäufelchen und Plastiktüten auf die Insel zurückkehren müssen … 😉 … die eine war etwas besonders, anstatt mit lila Blüten mit fast roten Blüten. Ich nehme natürlich nur Ableger, die mitten auf dem Weg wachsen und sowieso dauern zertreten werden …
… The rugosa roses had produced small offshoots … so I will have to come back with a little shovel and plastic bags … 😉 … one of the roses was special, instead of purple the flowers were nearly a clear red. Of course, I only take offshoots growing in the middle of the path, where they are trodden down all the time anyway …
Inzwischen waren wir zweieinhalb Stunden unterwegs, was uns lange vorkam für 5 km, selbst mit stehenbleiben und gucken oder fotografieren und unwegsamem Gelände. Wir schauten also noch einmal in die Broschüre. Dort stand, dass der Weg 8,8 km lang war und man ihn in vier Stunden zurücklegen könnte … o.k., das war eine Überraschung. Wir waren ein wenig müde und waren auch an keiner geeigneten Pausenstelle vorbeigekommen.
… In the meantime we had been walking for 2.5 hours, which we thought was a long time for 3 miles, even with stopping, looking, taking pictures and a rough path. So we looked into the brochure again. It said there that the path was 5.5 miles and that it was possible to walk it within 4 hours. Right, that came as a surprise. We were a bit tired, and we didn’t pass any suitable place for a break.
Wir gingen daher tapfer bis zum Ende, d. h. dem Restaurant und ruhten uns erst einmal aus bei einem leckeren Mittagsbüffet und anschliessendem Softice.
… So we continued bravely until the end, which means the restaurant, and relaxed with a very delicious lunch buffet and softice as dessert.
Der Fähranleger ist mit mehreren grossen, dicken, gepolsterten Pfählen eingerichtet. Auf Grund der Stömung hätte die Fähre sonst nämlich keine Chance anzulegen. Sie peilt an den Pfählen vorbei, lässt sich gegen sie gleiten und hangelt sich dann an ihnen entlang zum Ufer. An der alten Anlegestelle kann man sehen, dass die Pfähle einfach nur aus Holz waren. Die Kunstoffpolsterung des neuen Anlegeplatzes trägt sicherlich dazu bei, dass die Fähre nicht dauernd beschädigt wird.
… At the ferry landing, you see several high, large, polstered poles. Without them, the ferry wouldn’t have a chance to land because of the current. It steers to the left of the poles, lets itself drift towards them and then uses them to guide the boat to the bank. At the old landing place you can see that the poles where simply made of wood. The padding of the new landing poles certainly contributes to protect the boat from damages.

Hier auf der Aalborg-Seite kann man beide Fähren sehen; die gelbe ist die alte und um einiges kleiner als die neue.

Das war wieder ein wunderbarer Ausflug!
